The Octoling Shades are headgear in the Splatoon series.

They are a 2-star item produced by Cuttlegear and come with the primary ability Last-Ditch Effort. They can be obtained from the Octo Expansion. They cannot be ordered from another player.

Appearance

The Octoling Shades are a pair of shield style sunglasses that resemble Hypnoshades that Octolings wear. They have red rims and a glowing red dot on one eye.

Abilities

The Octoling Shades come with Last-Ditch Effort as the primary ability, which, being exclusive to the main slot of Headgear, prevents the wearer from also having Comeback, Opening Gambit, or Tenacity. As a 2-star item, the Octoling Shades come with two additional slots for secondary abilities, which may be increased to a maximum of three slots with a Super Sea Snail for each slot. Since they are made by the Cuttlegear gear brand, they have equal chances to roll any secondary ability.

They can also hypnotize the wearer.

Trivia

  • The glowing red dot visible is likely a reference to the 1984 film The Terminator, in which the titular T-800 Model 101 Terminator eventually has his human facade damaged and his glowing red robotic eye becomes visible, even when he disguises it with a pair of sunglasses that themselves are similar in appearance.
