Enter the Octobot King! is the fifth and final boss mission in singleplayer Octo Valley. DJ Octavio, leader of the Octarians, is the final boss.

Octo Valley

After completing every previous level in Octo Valley, the Boss Kettle on the UFO floating above the valley will finally be unlocked. After this, the player must make their way to the top of the 5th area, where there will be a Launchpad waiting for them. This pad will launch the player to the UFO, which will, upon entering the Boss Kettle, fly away and carry them to the final boss.

Boss Appearance

Unlike most Octarian fighters, which appear to be severed tentacles, DJ Octavio is an actual octopus in his entirety. He resembles a giant red-purple octopus with a permanent angry expression on his face. His tentacles bare large green X-shaped scars, similar to the ones seen on other bosses. On his head sits a large gold helmet, fashioned similar to a samurai helmet, with an octopus-shaped emblem on the front. He sits inside of a flying machine equipped with a pool of purple ink and a turntable, which he plays using plentiful stalks of wasabi. The turntable has four cannons on the front, two extendable fists and a set of thrusters that allow it to stay airborne. Surrounding the machine is a large, magenta-colored force field, which neither Agent 3 nor their Ink can pass through. It is only visible when close to the machine, as a warning to the player that they need to push it back to a comfortable distance.

Attacks

The boss stage and boss himself use everything the player has learned throughout the Octo Valley campaign. During the boss fight with DJ Octavio, he will use several techniques to try and splat or crush the player:

  • Octorpedoes, which are launched from the cannons in the front. They vaguely home in on the player, but are primarily used to cover the ground in ink.
  • Two giant fists that can be extended to try and punch the player. If shot at before they hit the ground, they will fly back into the machine and damage it, pushing it backwards through the long corridor.
  • Small, discoball-like spheres that spawn an Octarian when it lands. The Octarian spawned depends on the phase. It can be shot at to make it explode into ink.
  • The Octarian version of the Inkling's Killer Wail. Unlike the Inkling's version, this version is smaller and slower and it cannot hurt the player if they are hiding inside their own ink.
  • A massive octopus-shaped bomb that explodes into a massive amount of the ink. If shot back at DJ Octavio, he will continuously punch it back until he runs out of fists with which to hit it back and gets hit. These are the key to his defeat.

Walkthrough

First Phase

First, DJ Octavio will send out two Octorpedoes at a time which can easily be avoided by hiding in your ink. Eventually one of the fists from the machine will be fired at you. If you carefully watch DJ Octavio's hands, you can see which giant metal hand is going to punch you next as they will rumble. As soon as it fires and is in range, shoot ink at it until it reverses in to DJ Octavio. Strike him three times and he reveals a large octopus-shaped missile. Fire at this to hit it back three times and a launch pad to the next phase will appear. The missile will gradually get faster each time, especially in the later phases.

Second Phase

DJ Octavio will now throw both fists at once, as well as shooting the Octarian version of the Killer Wail every so often. Boxes containing Armor appear on various platforms. The Sunken Scroll for the boss is in a small box of the third platform. In order to get close enough to DJ Octavio to fight him, you must use Propeller Lifts to get to other platforms. While it is possible to get very close to the machine, it's not recommended to do so since all attacks will be harder to defend against. Shoot his fists back at him six times and he will release the missile. Once you send the missile into his face three times, another launch pad will appear.

Third Phase

Along with the increased amount of Octorpedoes being shot at a time, bombs resembling disco balls will also be thrown and will spawn Octocopters and Octobombers if they manage to hit the platform. Some platforms are invisible and require you to shoot your ink to proceed. To reach higher platforms, you must use Gushers. Continue to repeat the main strategy in the previous phases.

Fourth Phase

The enemy bombs will now only spawn Octoballs and four Octorpedoes will be shot at a time. DJ Octavio will shoot lasers every few seconds. Platforms are now noticeably narrower and therefore harder to avoid DJ Octavio's many attacks. There are common Balloon Fish to spread ink all over the platforms and hide from attacks. Continue to repeat the main strategy in the previous phases.

Fifth Phase

After the Squid Sisters override the boss music and Cap'n Cuttlefish sets himself free, DJ Octavio becomes extremely aggressive. Only one enemy-spawning bomb is fired at a time, spawning a Twintacle Octotrooper, and large amounts of Octorpedoes are fired over time. There are Inkrails connecting each platform. The final missile requires quick movement as it's at its quickest speed. Once you reverse the missile three times, DJ Octavio will eject from the machine. Shooting your ink at him will thrust him back at his machine, ending the battle.

Sunken Scroll Appearances

Shown at the right is the Sunken Scroll of mission 16, Propeller-Lift Fortress. It seems to be that DJ Octavio can assume human-like form, along with Cap'n Cuttlefish.

Trivia

  • After being defeated for the first time, DJ Octavio can be seen in the world map, imprisoned in a snowglobe-like tank by Cap'n Cuttlefish.
    • If the player chooses to fight the final boss battle again, the dialogue will change into a scenario where DJ Octavio escaped from his prison and recaptured Capn' Cuttlefish.
  • If one looks closely, they can see that the massive octopus shaped bomb that's fired at the player at the end of each phase is actually wearing a pair of sunglasses.
