Main or "Fan Fic" Canon?

Do you think this "Side Order" DLC part of the main canon of the Splatoon world, or just a canonical "fan fic" of if Order won the final splatfest of Splatoon 2?

Personally I don't think that should be taken as such extremely concrete information...that website is, as far as I can tell, the only source for that "confirmation", so it could easily be just be odd phrasing from a marketing guy rather than a clear indication of what the story line will be...I'd seen that sentence on the official website before you kept repeatedly trying to add it to the page, and had spent a good while trying to find any equivalent information from Japanese sources (which I'd consider a bit more reliable since things can be lost in translation/localization) and found nothing even mentioning the idea of it being "what would have happened" on the JP websites/social media, at least as far as I could find. It's still theoretically possible, I suppose, but right now the only evidence seems to only exist in English, and considering that things can get lost in translation even in the games themselves I hesitate to take a random marketing blurb as the definite truth when we have practically no other context... Yea. I've grown a tad after that time I commented. I think what the creator was trying to say was if we should treat Side Order as a fanon thing or canon thing. I think its in the main canon. looking at all the new things we've seen since and in the recent Side Order trailer, Side Order is essentially confirmed to be a simulation, so even if it isnt "in reality" I assume that it isnt a AU or "what if" of some kind Ursa Minor (talk) 02:32, 8 November 2023 (UTC)

I personally think it has something to do with Marina's Memories, due to the octoling looking (Kind of?) Similar to her, and the entire fact of that octoling looking... lost. Inkling in Characters section

I think the inclusion of a still containing a barely discernible Inkling character is not enough evidence to list them as a character confirmed to appear in the mode. The stills resemble concept art (as the Octoling's design is inconsistent between images), which may not make it to the final product. What do others think? I have to agree too. I added to the Inkling with (assumed through trailer footage) but a shadow is not really what you want to rely on in an argument wether there is one or not. Blackish-dark colored ink?

If you look closely in one of the elevator pics where the octoling is standing outside of the elevator, and the one with the window, you can see some blackish ink seeping out under the elevator door and through the window. Ig this should be mentioned in the article somewhere?

Pearl's out fit is a dress resembling Marie's but in a different colour and that octoling is more like resembling callie's outfit. Trivia section contents

A) Recently someone added a trivia point claiming the Octoling is "taller" than the player Octolings; I find this to be misleading as the character is wearing a new piece of shoes gear, which for all we know could make all Octolings that wear the boots appear taller, the same way the Neo Octoling Boots (S2) or Pearlescent Kicks (S2 and S3) work in-game. I'd like to remove the trivia point as it's completely unclear how much taller the character is, as well as whether or not their footwear contributes to their supposed taller height, but would appreciate others' input.

If in the end it's decided to keep the information, I think that fact should be added to the description section of the article rather than to trivia.

B) Would it be appropriate to note that the still images that appear briefly in the trailer strongly resemble mid-production concept art? The Octoling's inconsistent skintone from image to image compared to how they appear in-engine (in-game) is the biggest factor towards making me believe this is the case. i did a comparison and while this octoling does appear taller than the tallest possible height for the main playable octoling girl (wearing slamgerine slip ons, which are the tallest shoes in the game), the difference in their posture especially makes it too hard to tell for sure imo, so i think it would be best to remove it for now... While the model does appear a bit different, there's been quite a few cases where models and stage design was altered between Direct trailers and final releases, so I hesitate to consider this worthy of being noted on the page before the mode's release. Themes in the trailor

Through a lot of the photos, themes like elavators and a black substance are a common theme, do they deserve a mention in the article? -Xando (talk) 16:47, 5 April 2023 (UTC)

At this time there isn't enough information to be able to determine what the themes of the mode will be, as the plot is unknown. We cannot conclusively say the trailer suggests the mode will have themes of elevators (or what elevators may symbolize) simply because the teaser showed concept art of elevators; that is speculative. There isn't enough information to go off of. It's best if we wait for official confirmation and/or the official release itself before we draw any such conclusions.

None of the released campaign mode articles note those storylines' themes presently; I don't think it's something worth looking into noting on the wiki given its subjective and analytical nature.

If you would like to add elaboration regarding the assumed areas the images depict to the teaser description section that would be fine, but at this time we have almost no information on plot and themes. Yoshifan52 (talk) 17:49, 5 April 2023 (UTC)

Pillars in the 6th image

I disagree that the 6th teaser image is obviously pillars. I thought it was spikes when I first saw it, and a lot of other people also think that they are spikes. I can see the pillars too, but to me it is a like an optical illusion where you can see either.  GX_64 (talk)  09:52, 11 April 2023 (UTC)

IMO it's vague on first glance, but upon detailed inspection they are more like caves or gaps in between white pillars. Considering how the pink roots are drawn on the white structures, they do look like pillars. The pink roots floats where they touch the dark area, which seems to depict a body of water. It looks a bit like black spikes poking out of the body of water, but if you look closely at the water surface where it touches the white structures, the body of water is rendered to be extending inward through the dark space, so they must be holes and not spikes. Spanish DLC release date

I've seen this once or twice, but apparently on Nintendo/SRL's spanish twitter, a promo image said 2024 under the promo image for side order. Is this true, and if it is, should we put it in the article? -Xando (talk) 18:45, 26 April 2023 (UTC)

Two things.

1: Shouldn't we add the sound file for the music that plays during the teaser, at least until Side Order releases and/or the soundtrack is officially released?

2: Recent datamines have revealed that Nintendo accidentally added a reward for completing the DLC; that reward is Inkopolis Square. Since this is actually confirmed, as it was in the game's files, shouldn't we add that to the page?

As for point one, we *could* but its probably full of other sounds or effects that detract from listening and therefore is not valuable. As for the second, absolutely not. We do not want to use datamines in that fashion for unreleased material as it is something prone to takedowns—Pikipedia was DMCA'd for similar datamine for future release content and thats not something to risk here either. Stilt Fish

In the trailer, there is a fish enemy that seems to be in the air, with the help of a black, inky pillar. I saw it at least twice in the trailer, and each time its pillar was at a different height. Rouguelike/rouguelite?

Well it has been publicly stated that the mode is going to be highly re-playable, and whenever you die you restart from floor 1, after each floor you unlock more stuff, and the gameplay cycle seems to be very similar of the Risk of Rain series, as seen in the most recent trailer. Do note this is speculation and just a theory, though we can assume it to be plausible, if this post gets taken down for speculation, then whats the point of discussion on unreleased content? Yeah, it's clearly inspired by the roguelike/roguelite genre, even though Nintendo hasn't described it in those exact terms (probably because those sorts of terms are mostly meaningless to casual audiences). After playing the DLC, I'd say Side Order is more of a roguelite. Roguelike is a genre for video games that follow the exact same rulesets for its game design, while roguelites only follow most of the rules and add new spins to the game, which is something I think is what Side Order is. For example, most roguelikes are harsher with deaths resetting the whole game usually, but roguelites like Side Order here allow players to continue trying or gain upgrades to make runs easier. -

DLC name translation in Spanish

"Cara" in the name of the DLC means "Side". "Face" is a literal translation that doesn't make sense, in this context (I know because I'm from Spain). I post this here as it doesn't let me edit the page to correct it. Timeman (talk) 08:04, 23 February 2024 (UTC)

Fact for trivia

I can't edit the article(makes sense) so I'll put this here for other people to add: Side order is the first dlc to have the dialogue change after you beat the final boss multiple times

This is not completely true since the dialogue for fighting Callie and Octavio in Splatoon 2 also changed on refights. But unlike Side Order, that dialogue only changed once, whereas the dialogue for Smollusk encounters changes with each additional weapon. Lyichir (talk) 16:48, 24 February 2024 (UTC)

Palette win/lose screen screenshots?

I noticed as I've done runs that the results screen has different poses for each weapon, dependent on if you win or lose. I was wondering if we could maybe make an effort to add screenshots of the different poses to each weapon's nonstandard page (or to this page's already expansive gallery, or something similar)? I haven't had the time to beat the tower with all the weapons yet but want a handful of the poses as an art reference, so I'm sure there's other people out there who would want to see them all too but don't have the time to hunt them down in game.

Dedicated Permanent Upgrades/Hacks page

I think it might be a good idea to create a separate, dedicated page for the "Permanent Upgrades" section, titled something along the lines of "Permanent Upgrades (Side Order)" or "Hacks (Side Order)". That way, we could add more in-depth data about each hack, similar to the list on the Color chip page.

easter eggs

if you afk in the order sector the pearl drone will fall asleep and if you afk even longer she will appear on the deck above the entrance to the foyer in human form,

if you spin in the order sector in squid or kid form the pearl drone will spin too,

after you talk to marina in the order sector and peek over to her laptop it will look like she is making edits to the memverse but she will close her laptop,

Your edits were undone because they did not follow the Manual of Style and/or because they were already noted somewhere else. In the case of the Pearl Drone trivia at least, the info was already available on the character's page. Story Description

So, the story description says that the DLC takes place in "'what has become of' Inkopolis Square, the main hub of Splatoon 2, in 'what would've happened' if Team Order had beaten Team Chaos." Move release history to bottom for All story mode pages?

Why are the trailers listed first? Story or gameplay is the most relevant first section. I haven't seen this format in other wikis.
