The system for X rank is much more complex than any other matchmaking system in Splatoon 2. When you rank up from S+, your X Rank Power will be 2000. There will be 10 different matches you will need to complete for each mode. After that, Nintendo has given you your X Rank Power for the month. After that, each ranked match that you win will contribute to your X Rank Power. Your X Rank Power will be different for each mode. When you are introduced to the beginning of an X rank match, you will see a collective average power of the players in the bottom left corner. When the players are viewing the start of the match, a single orange crown will appear over the character's head if they are in the top 500 X Rank Power. While in-round, the crown will not appear again unless you are splatted by the person who has the crown or they are on your team. Once every month, the top 500 players in each Ranked Mode will be announced on SplatNet 2. Each weapon will also have their own person who is announced that plays them best in X Rank. After Version 3.0.0, there will only be 8 stages per Ranked Mode each month. At the monthly X Power reset, 8 new stages will replace the 8 old ones over all the modes. On the final day of each month, everything that is supposed to reset will reset. If you end up with an X Power of below 2000 at the end of the month, you will be demoted to S+9. If you are playing X Rank and your power goes below 1900, then you will be demoted to S+9.
