Judd (Japanese: ジャッジくん Jajji-kun) is a cat in Splatoon. Unlike other characters, he seems to play a bigger role in Splatoon's story that remains a mystery. In multiplayer, he plays the role of referee in Turf Wars . When he's done judging, he can be found sleeping on a trash bin in the Inkopolis Plaza. The player can talk to Judd and he will give advice as well as a cash bonus depending on the player's online battle vibe that increases and decreases with wins and losses. He will only give one cash bonus per stage rotation.

Personality and traits

Judd was born with the incredible ability to judge turf area at a glance to separate the winners from the losers. It may look like he’s wearing a snazzy cat tuxedo, but that’s actually just the naturally occurring pattern of his fur. He is also a bit lazy just like most cats.

Judd's Advice

When Judd's Zzz appear red, he has new tips to give or cash to award.

  • "An Inkstrike lets you attack any location on the [gamepad] map! The tornado slowly expands from a central point, so try to be accurate! And don't let foes hit you while you're looking at your map! Stay alert!"
  • "Did you ever notice that light on top of your ink tank? It tells you when you've got enough ink to use your Sub weapon!"
  • "Have you even been splatted by the same enemy repeatedly? This is often because they've found an advantageous position to hold! In such situations, just charging in is likely to get you splatted yet again. Stay calm and try to catch them off guard from a different angle!"
  • "Hit a foe with a Disruptor, and their movement will be slowed down! They'll take longer to recharge ink, too, giving you the clear advantage. If you get hit by one yourself, it may be wise to hide until it wears off. Or you could choose to fight anyway, if you have the ink reserves!"
  • "Players can't see you while you're hiding in the ink as a squid. But if you move around, they might spot the splashes of ink you create! So if you spot splashes in an area of enemy ink that seems to be empty... Quickly shoot your own ink to reveal the lurking foe!"
  • "Rollers can deal huge damage to foes by rolling over them directly. But cool-headed foes aren't going to let you get close that easily! So try not to forget that flinging ink can be pretty powerful as well! At mid-range, you're often better off flinging than charging right in!"
  • "Sprinklers are Sub weapons that paint the ground around them! Try using them to distract enemies while you go in for the decisive blow!"
  • "The Bubbler is a barrier that will deflect all enemy attacks! And if you touch your allies while it's active, they'll get barriers as well! Its weakness is that attacks will push you back even further than usual. If an opponent uses one, either run, or try to push them out of range!"
  • "The Killer Wail attacks in a straight line, even penetrating walls! If you hide behind an object while firing, it'll be hard for foes to dodge."
  • "Unlike most bombs, Burst Bombs won't splat foes in one hit. So try throwing two of them at once, or follow up with your Main weapon!"

  • Judd is in the original cover art for Splatoon, but ended up being covered by the logo. He can now just about be seen between the 'S' and the 'p'.
