Haunt is an ability in Splatoon and Splatoon 2.
Haunt tracks the opponent that defeated the player. In Splatoon, the player with Haunt will get a boost in mobility and damage when marked. In Splatoon 2, if the player with Haunt splats the opponent that splatted them in their last death, the opponent will take longer to respawn and get a larger special penalty, similar to Respawn Punisher. Haunt is restricted to clothing as a main ability.
Splatoon
Haunt marks the opponent that defeated the player with a position-tracking mark for 9 seconds. This mark can be seen by the player with the ability and their team, similar to Point Sensor or Echolocator. Haunt activates automatically if the player gets splatted by another Inkling. Its effect is reduced by Cold Blooded.
Haunt also has a Damage Up, Defense Up, and Run Speed Up effect when the player with Haunt is marked by Point Sensor, Echolocator, or Haunt.
Mutual exclusivity
This ability is found as the main ability only on clothing, so other abilities found only on shoes are mutually exclusive with it; in other words players cannot have them together. These abilities are Cold Blooded, Ninja Squid, and Recon (ability). In addition, since wearing the Splatfest Tee is mandatory during a Splatfest, these abilities cannot be used for the duration of those events.
Use
Haunt is good for players who usually play on the flanks or run support, or try and stop enemies from out-flanking their team. This is because if a flank or back is lost, then the team is notified that an enemy may be coming up from the behind.
Teammates should be able to avenge their fallen allies much more easily.
Because of its interaction with Point Sensor and Echolocator, Haunt can be considered a pseudo-counter ability for these sub and special weapons.

“ | Once you've respawned, reveals the position of the player who splatted you. | ” |
— In-game Description
|
Haunt shows the location of the opponent that defeated the player until they themselves are defeated. The opponent is shown as a white silhouette, similar to the effects of how Thermal Ink and Sting Ray shows opponents. The marked opponent can only be seen by the player with the ability. Haunt activates automatically if the player gets splatted by another Inkling. The effect will wear off momentarily if the distance between the player and the opponent becomes too small. The distance required for the revealing effect to activate can be increased by Cold-Blooded. If the player manages to splat the opponent who activated Haunt, the opponent will suffer the penalties of Respawn Punisher, which forces their respawn time to increase from 8.5 to 9.2 seconds, and forces them to lose an extra 15% of their special gauge upon being splatted.
Mutual exclusivity
This ability is found as the main ability only on clothing, so other abilities found only on shoes are mutually exclusive with it; in other words players cannot have them together. These abilities are Ability Doubler, Ninja Squid, Respawn Punisher, and Thermal Ink. In addition, since wearing the Splatfest Tee is mandatory during a Splatfest, these abilities cannot be used for the duration of those events.
