Grizzly bear The boss of Grizzco Industries and the main antagonist in Return of the Mammalians. He speaks to his employees in Salmon Run and Salmon Run Next Wave through a fishing bear statue with a radio antenna attached to it.

Iso Padre
Giant isopod A previous resident of the Deepsea Metro who wears sunglasses, a gold neck chain, and a black leisure suit and carries a briefcase filled with toys. He also carries several childish accessories to further emphasize his playful side. He collects mem cakes.

O.R.C.A.
AI A computer system in Alterna that serves to record and preserve human history. It is booted up by the current Agent 3, then begins collecting information on them while guiding them through tests.

Octoling The leader of the Octarian army is the main antagonist and final boss in the single-player story modes Octo Valley and Octo Canyon as well as the first boss in Return of the Mammalians.

Commander Tartar
AI Also known as the telephone. The main antagonist of the Octo Expansion. It created the Sanitized Octarians by sterilizing them with primordial ooze.

Mr. Grizz
Grizzly bear The CEO of Grizzco Industries and the main antagonist of Return of the Mammalians. He is the creator of Fuzzy Ooze.

Order
AI The overseer of the Spire of Order and the main antagonist of Splatoon 3: Side Order. It is an AI created by Marina that wishes to bring the world into a perfect state of order.

Octostomp
Octarian, Great Octoweapon, Octoboss A cube-shaped Octoweapon created during the Great Turf War by the Octarians. It is the first boss fought in Octo Valley, third boss in Octo Canyon as Neo Octostomp and an optional boss in Octo Expansion as Octostomp Redux. In Return of the Mammalians, an Octostomp's remains is used by Frye as a nest for her eels.

Octonozzle
Octarian, Great Octoweapon A can-shaped Octoweapon created during The Great Turf War by the Octarians. It is the second boss fought in Octo Valley.

Octowhirl
Octarian, Great Octoweapon A round-shaped clam-like Octoweapon created during The Great Turf War by the Octarians. It is the third boss fought in Octo Valley.

Octomaw
Octarian, Great Octoweapon A metallic Zapfish-like Octoweapon created during The Great Turf War by the Octarians. It is the fourth boss fought in Octo Valley.

Octo Oven
Octarian, Octoboss Originally a bread-baking machine, it was repurposed as an Octoboss. It is the first boss fought in Octo Canyon and appears as an optional boss in Octo Expansion as Octo Oven XXL.

Octo Samurai
Octarian, Octoboss An Octarian that was trained to wield his own Great Octoweapon, the Octocycle. He is fought as the second boss in Octo Canyon and appears as an optional boss in Octo Expansion as Revenge of Octo Samurai.

Octo Shower
Octarian(s), Octoboss One of the Octobosses created by the Octarians. It is the fourth boss in Octo Canyon and appears as an optional boss in Octo Expansion as Revenge of Octo Samurai.

Inkling In pursuit for the Treasure, she fights Agent 3 with her eels and the remains of an Octostomp in Cozy & Safe Factory.

Shiver
Octoling In pursuit for the Treasure, she fights Agent 3 with her megalodon Master Mega in Landfill Dreamland.

Big Man
Manta ray In pursuit for the Treasure, he fights Agent 3 by transforming into a large silhouette of a manta ray that leaves behind turquoise and yellow-green ink.

Octoling An imprisoned form of Marina controlled by Order and the boss of the first climb in Splatoon 3: Side Order. She is first met on 10F of the Spire of Order in the Control Room.

Asynchronous Rondo
Jelleton One of 3 potential bosses in the Spire of Order. It is a large rotating tower originally created by Marina to serve as a hospitality bot in the Memverse. Corrupted by Order, it became aggresive as a result.

Pinging Marciale
Jelleton One of 3 potential bosses in the Spire of Order. It is a three-layered spherical Jelleton encased in a globular metal shell.

Parallel Canon
Jelleton One of 3 potential bosses in the Spire of Order. They are a group of humanoid Jelletons based of Agent 4's data acquired by Order. The masked figure is a direct copy of Agent 4's data while the helmet figures are copies of that copy.

Sheldon
Horseshoe crab Owner of the Ammo Knights shop in all three Splatoon games. He is easily excited by the variety of weapons used in Turf War and is known to talk about them for a very long time. In Octo Canyon, he lends Agent 4 a variety of Hero weapons to use for specific levels.

The owner of the Cooler Heads store with a very shy personality. Moe is a rude but cowardly clownfish living in her tentacles. Due to getting too flustered greeting customers, she moves her shop online in Splatoon 2. They return in Splatoon 3: Expansion Pass.

Jelonzo
Jellyfish The owner of the Jelly Fresh store. He is one of the few known jellyfish able to communicate with Inklings, albeit poorly, as his dialogue is rendered in broken English. Returns in Splatoon 3: Expansion Pass.

Crusty Sean
Prawn The owner of the Shrimp Kicks store in Splatoon with an easygoing personality. His jacket gives the impression of tempura. In Splatoon 2, he moves to Inkopolis Square and opens the Crust Bucket. In Splatoon 3 he travels the world in the Wandercrust tour while being supported via SplatNet 3.

Spyke
Sea urchin Works in the back alley of Inkopolis Plaza. He allows players to order the gear of other players, albeit often for higher prices. In Splatoon 2, he has retired after making money through a get-rich-quick scheme. Returns in Splatoon 3: Expansion Pass.

Flow and Craymond
Sea slug The shopkeeper of the headgear store Headspace, with a very spacey and relaxed personality. Most Inklings seem to think of her as their "crazy aunt," and an unhinged emperor shrimp named Craymond lives on her head. They return in Splatoon 3: Expansion Pass.

Jelfonzo
Jellyfish Owner of Ye Olde Cloth Shoppe, and the son of Jelonzo. He is also capable of speaking Inkling, but due to studying ancient texts, his speech is very antiquated. Despite this, he always stays up to date with the freshest styles. Returns in Splatoon 3: Expansion Pass.

Bisk
Spider crab Owner of the Shella Fresh store with a laidback personality. At one point, he broke up with his girlfriend to pursue a career in music. Returns in Splatoon 3: Expansion Pass.

Murch
Sea urchin Lets the player order others' gear and offers various other services to help players get the abilities they want. He is seen to look up to Spyke and appears to be following his get-rich-quick scheme. He appears in both Splatoon 2 and Splatoon 3.

Gnarly Eddy and Nails
Nautilus Respectively, the nautilus clerk/model and river snail owner of the headgear shop Naut Couture. They display contrasting levels of energy in their behavior.

Jel La Fleur
Jellyfish Owner of the Man-o'-Wardrobe store who speaks in a somewhat antiquated and formal style.

Mr. Coco
Coconut crab Owner of the Crush Station store with a friendly personality, contrasting with his intimidating appearance.

Harmony
Sea anemone Runs Hotlantis due to its manager usually being absent. She has a relaxed personality and additionally serves as the lead singer for Chirpy Chips.

Fred Crumbs
Japanese horse mackerel Runs Shrimp Kicks in Inkopolis in Splatoon 3: Expansion Pass. His design is based on Aji Fry, which is a deep-fried Japanese horse mackerel dish.

Cipher
Luciferidae The owner of a stall in Side Order where locker decorations, stickers, banners, and gear can be purchased.

Species Description

Inkling
A sentient race of squid-like humanoids who are the main playable species in the Splatoon universe.

Octoling
The Octarian equivalent to Inkling, being octopus-like humanoids and an alternative playable species in Splatoon 2 and Splatoon 3. In Inkadia, some serve the Octarian military, while many have left and integrated into Inkling society during the events of Splatoon 2.

Octarian
A species of octopus creatures, coming in many varieties. The cut-off limbs of Octolings are the main enemy fought in the story modes of Octo Valley in Splatoon, Octo Canyon and Octo Expansion in Splatoon 2 and Return of the Mammalians in Splatoon 3.

Salmonid
A species of salmon introduced in Splatoon 2's Salmon Run. They reside far off the coast from Inkopolis and Splatsville on man-made islands called "Spawning Areas". They have many different varieties. They are fought in the series as opponents with exception of one Smallfry, who accompanies the player in Splatoon 3.

Jellyfish
Can be seen scattered in the cities and across various stages.

Zapfish
Creatures that appear in Octo Valley, Octo Canyon, and in The Crater. They are the main collectable objective in these story modes, and the player must rescue one at the end of every level in order to proceed in the story.

Great Zapfish
Giant Zapfish that power large cities. Inkopolis' Great Zapfish was stolen by the Octarians twice while Splatsville's was stolen by Mr. Grizz.

Super Sea Snail
A species and type of currency in the Splatoon series rewarded to players after a Splatfest. Their sole use is to increase the number of slots on gear or reroll all gear abilities on a select piece of gear.

Jelleton
Jelletons are main antagonistic species in Splatoon 3: Side Order. The fish-like types appear to be mechanical parrotfish and can be found in the Spire of Order.

Humans
An extinct species of primate that once populated the world over 12,000 years before the events of the Splatoon series. They were a thriving species before a mass extinction event took place, wiping out a majority of humanity's population. The remaining survivors took refuge in Alterna, before it too eventually fell and destroyed the shelter and its inhabitants, causing the extinction of the species.

  • Sally and Hara Wataru, a pair of graffiti artists.
  • Marie mentions having a friend who is a blackbelly skate.
  • Marina mentions that her landlord is a narwhal[note 1] and one of her friends is a sea sponge.
