Downloadable content, or DLC, is additional post-launch content released for Splatoon. Nintendo of America's official Twitter has stated that "Every week or two, new free content will be introduced in #Splatoon, including weapons, stages and gear."
Existing DLC
Weapons
N-ZAP '85
The N-ZAP '85 is a shooter type weapon released on June 1st, 2015. It is very similar in stats to the Splattershot Jr., but lacks its range. Its sub weapon are Splat Bombs and its special weapon is the Echolocator. To unlock this weapon, one must reach level 5, and pay 3,500 coins.
Inkbrush
The Inkbrush is a roller type weapon that has thinner Ink coverage than its Splat Roller and Dynamo Roller siblings, but allows the player to move significantly faster. It was released on June 5th, 2015. To unlock this weapon, one must pay 4,800 coins and be at level 5.
Splash-o-matic
The Splash-o-matic is a shooter type weapon released on June 13th, 2015. It lack range, but makes up for it in rapid fire shots and in accuracy. To unlock this weapon, one must pay 3,900 coins and be at an unknown level. Sub Weapon: Suction Bomb - Special Weapon: Bomb Rush
Custom E-Liter 3K
The Custom E-Liter 3K is a charger weapon with considerable range. It was released on June 17, 2015 alongside the L-3 Nozzlenose. The main weapon is the same as the E-Liter 3K, though the sub and special weapons are different. Sub Weapon: Squid Beakon - Special Weapon: Kraken
L-3 Nozzlenose
The L-3 Nozzlenose is a shooter-type weapon that, while accurate and shoots rapidly, is somewhat short range and can only fire 3 bursts of ink each time the button is pressed. It was released on June 17, 2015 alongside the Custom E-Liter 3K. Its sub weapon is Disruptor and its special is Killer Wail.
Carbon Roller
The Carbon Roller is a roller-type weapon with reduced ink splash but is noticeably quicker to roll than the standard roller. It was released on June 27, 2015 alongside the Custom Dual Squelcher. Its sub weapon is Burst Bombs and its special is Inkzooka.
Custom Dual Squelcher
The Custom Dual Squelcher is a Shooter-type weapon, a variant of the existing Dual Squelcher. It was released on June 27, 2015 alongside the Carbon Roller. Its sub weapon is Squid Beakon and its special is Killer Wail.
Stages
Port Mackerel
Port Mackerel is a stage that was released on June 1st, 2015. Like the majority of the other maps, it is symmetrical, and like Kelp Dome it has multiple isles.
Kelp Dome
Kelp Dome is a stage that was released on June 10th, 2015. Like the majority of the other maps, it is symmetrical and contains a larger center area. This stage appears in Hero Mode.
Bluefin Depot
Bluefin Depot was released on June 20, 2015. It is characterized by elevated areas by the spawn points connected only by mesh walkways, and two central areas divided by an impassable span of water. This stage appears in Hero Mode.
Game Modes
Ranked Battle
Ranked Battle is a mode category that features more competitive modes. It was locked until enough players worldwide reached level 10 online. It was released on June 1st, 2015.
Splat Zones
The first Ranked Battle mode, Splat Zones, where two teams fight for control of predetermined locations on a stage, was released on June 1st, 2015.

Other
August Update Event
This August, a "huge matchmaking update" is expected. This will add a slew of new matchmaking features, including friend-based matchmaking. This will allow either 4 Wii U friends to team up against another group of 4 Wii U friends, or allow 8 Wii U friends to secure a lobby for themselves, where the group will be able to decide the stage and ruleset.

Splatoon DLC for other games
Super Smash Bros
Three Splatoon themed costumes were added to Super Smash Bros. for 3DS and Super Smash Bros. for Wii U on June 14th 2015, two days before Nintendo's E3 Digital Event was held on June 16th 2015.
On Friday June 5th 2015 Masahiro Sakurai, the creator and director of the Kirby and Super Smash Bros. series, officially announced on a Miiverse post that the DLC costumes would be released.
Those who preordered Splatoon at GameStop received a free code for these costumes, though they couldn't be obtained until the official release.
The Splatoon-themed DLC includes a full outfit for Mii Fighters and a Trophy of an Inkling.
