Splatoon features a variety of characters seen from the fan made to fourth issue. They range from being secondaries to commentators to fulfilling the plot of the issue.
Protagonists
Blue Team
- Item/Ability: Idiotic Syncnication Power (アホシソクロパワー Aho Shisokuro Pawā)
A group of supposedly idiotic Inklings who are the main protagonists of the manga. They don a blue ink color. This team consists of four members:
- Goggles-Kun, a C- rank, male Inkling who sports Pilot Goggles, an Armor Jacket Replica and Hero Runner Replicas. He is the mascot of the manga. His trait is clueless[1] and takes on Shooter weapons, having a Tentatek Splattershot set.
- Goggles is quite naïve. In fact, it is mentioned in issue 4 that Goggles mixes toothpaste and wasabi. He sometimes never listens to anyone else except for Knit Cap, showing that she and Goggles have a very special bond.
- The following topic from the squid profiles reads about Goggles: "He can't hear his alarm clock very well, so he always leaves his house tired and disorientated. He also has a bad sleeping posture." It must mean that Goggles can't hear well, which is why he sometimes ignores people.
- Headphones-Chan, a B- rank, female Inkling who sports Studio Headphones, a B-ball Jersey (Away), and Red Work Boots. Her trait is sister[1] (despite that being a family role) and takes on Charger weapons, wielding a Classic Squiffer.
- Whilst acting as a big sister to the team despite them being the same age, Headphones is level-headed, except when Goggles is doing his usual idiotic things.
- Glasses-Kun, a C+ male Inkling who sports Retro Specs, a Shirt & Tie, and Plum Casuals. He seems to be the leader and his trait is expert[1]. Glasses takes on Inkbrush (Roller) weapons, weilding an Octobrush set (and a few other brushes).
- Glasses can be a very anxious squid, but tries to hide it as best as he can. He tries to flaunt his knowledge as much as he can, but sometimes he notices nobody is listening to him, which upsets him.
- Knit Cap-Chan (or, because it's too clunky, Bobble-Chan), a C rank, female Inkling who sports a Bobble Hat, a Green Zip Hoodie, and some Purple Sea Slugs. Her trait is cutie[1] and takes on Slosher weapons, wielding the Slosher.
- Knit Cap seems to enjoy Goggles' actions. Though she and her big smile show her innocence, Knit Cap is pretty much always happy in the face of danger.

Trivia
- Most squids are named by their headgear, with Kun or Chan at the end of their name.
- Some of these squids, like Rider, are named after their clothing and other squids, like Cleat-Chan, are named after their shoes.
- As shown in a CoroCoro video about Splatoon Volume 1, Sankichi drew the mascot, Goggles, in squid ink.
