Revision as of 09:07, 20 September 2015
Version 2.0.0 was a major update to Splatoon, which took place on August 6, 2015. Some hotly-anticipated features made their debut, such as additional game modes, new weapons and new gear. It was superceded by Version 2.1.0.
Squad Battle
Squad Battle is a game mode in which two to four friends can join together an participate on the same team in a Ranked Battle. There are three types of Squads:
- Quad Squad - A full team of 4 friends participates against an opposing Squad.
- Tri Squad - A grizzled team of 3 friends participates against an opposing Squad, which may consist of 4 players. Penalties and rewards are the same, except a Tri Squad will respawn slightly faster.
- Twin Squad - A team of 2 friends is paired with another Twin Squad on a team, then plays against a pair of opposing Squads.
Players participating in Squad Battles receive the usual rewards for Ranked Battles, but the mode cannot be used to increase a player's Rank above A+ (see below).
Private Battle
Private Battle allows players to set up customized matches between only friends and friends of friends. All stages and game modes are available, and the host sets up the teams. The host can create even battles (such as 1v1 or 4v4) or uneven battles (such as 1v4 or 3v2). However, there can only be up to 4 players per team, and the host cannot assign everyone to the same team.
No Battle Points, Cash or level experience are rewarded for Private Battles. It is only there for fun.
Levels and Ranks
Levels
Players can now increase their level to 50. Levels 21 to 50 are not earned through Battle Points, but by the same rules as Splatfest:
- In Turf War, your experience is determined by your turf inked and whether your team wins:
- If you ink between 200 and 399 turf, you receive 1 point.
- If you ink 400 or more turf, you instead receive 2 points.
- If your team wins, you receive an additional 3 points (for a maximum of 5 per battle).
- In Splat Zones, and Tower Control, you receive 1 point for each minute your team survives.
- If your team wins by timeout, you will receive an additional 3 points.
- If your team wins by knockout, you receive 10 points total.
Ranks
Players can now increase their Rank to S and S+. Squad Battles are not allowed in the S ranks, however.
A player whose Rank changes in a Ranked Battle will be returned to the Lobby.
Rewards
Visiting Judd every 5 levels starting at level 25 will reward the player with a new item:

Background Music
Four new pieces of background music were added to the random multiplayer battle pool:

Urchin Underpass Overhaul
Urchin Underpass has seen substantial modifications based on player activity since the game's release. Trees were relocated, corners were cut, walls were opened up, and there's all-round more turf to ink.
Some prominent notes:
- The long corridors on the sides are now open in the middle and the end is covered in un-inkable glass.
- The above combined with the addition of trees in the center area make sniping from the metal grate platform less viable.
- A new "high road" is present when coming from the spawn point, giving players another route back to the battle.
Tweaks
As usual, several small tweaks were made to the game to improve the experience and enforce better mechanical balance.
- File:Weapon Special Inkzooka.png Inkzooka - Points needed to charge the Special meter changed from 180p to 220p
- File:Weapon Special Echolocator.png Echolocator - Points needed to charge the Special meter changed from 180p to 200p
- File:Weapon Special Killer Wail.png Killer Wail - Points needed to charge the Special meter changed from 180p to 160p
- File:Ability Tenacity.png Tenacity - Will no longer fill the Special gauge prior to the start of the match in the event of a disconnected teammate.
- File:Ability Special Charge Up.png Special Charge Up - Charge is now based strictly on turf inked rather than how the turf was inked. This effects faster Special on average.
- Splatfest - When deciding the winner, the percentage of battles won is now multiplied by 4 instead of 2. The host's Splatfest Ink color set is no longer used in Private Battle during a fest and in Squad Battle before/after a fest.
- Layout objects in Arowana Mall, Kelp Dome, Moray Towers and Saltspray Rig have been adjusted (mainly affecting Ranked Battle modes).
