Order, also known by its boss name Overlorder and Smollusk after being defeated for the first time, is the main antagonist of Splatoon 3: Side Order. It is an AI created by Marina during her creation of the Memverse, and the overseer of the Spire of Order.

It is the final boss fought at 30F.

Appearance

Close up of Order's face

Order resembles a black cloud comprised of glitches and noise, vaguely in the shape of a cartoon proportioned octopus, with a circular mouth akin to a siphon mouth, oval eyes with a line straight down the middle, and wisps trailing off the body that resemble tentacles. The exact proportions of the mouth and eyes constantly change with the glitches.

The Overlorder is an extremely oversized octopus, colored in the same black ink as Jelletons. All of its facial features are unnatural, as for example, it has two red ∞-balls for eyes. The ink it is covered in is also transparent, with white "bones" inside, similar to the Jelletons.

Once it is defeated for the first time, Order is forced into a miniscule form that is dubbed "Smollusk", thanks to Pearl greatly damaging Overlorder during the climax with a Killer Wail-like scream. As Smollusk, Order resembles an octopus paralarva with black tinted tentacles, albeit with mature octopus eyes.

Strategy

Like its previous duet form Marina Agitando, Overlorder is protected by a barrier that is linked to a set of nearby portals; if the portals are destroyed Overlorder will be exposed to attack. However, after the first set of portals is destroyed the following ones will begin to move across the arena, spawning more Jelletons all the while.

Overloader has many different special attacks that the player must be prepared for. Overloader can fire Stinger beams, propel several Reefsliders consecutively, launch Super Chumps, and send its tentacles out underneath the player in an attempt to launch them off the arena.

In the second state, Overloader removes all the color chips out of Agent 8's Pallet, reducing their effectiveness back to basics. However, not only has Overloader done that, but he has gathered all of the color chips Agent 8 didn't get to use, and stashed them in his portals, and had even organized them by color. This stunt only ended up supercharging the color chips, making Agent 8 stronger than ever each time they popped a portal until they got all six varieties. This segment is only experienced in the first clear of the Spire, as after the third phase, Overlorder reverts back to Smollusk.

Order was vicious. But we're no
slouches ourselves. I always knew
Eight and Pearl could do it. And so
we returned to the real world,
happily ever after.
Marina

Wasn't that li'l Order cuuute?
I wonder where it went.
Pearl

That's the last we'll see of THAT
creep, I bet. And if not, then
Eight, Marina, Acht, and me are
gonna fry it up all over again!
Conclusion
Even here, we stay Off the Hook!

Trivia

  • Much like with Commander Tartar in Octo Expansion and Mr. Grizz in Return of the Mammalians, players can re-experience the fight with both Second Form Overlorder and the credits for Side Order by interacting with a special object somewhere in the overworld. In this instance, the object is a Killer Wail 5.1 speaker used by the Pearl Drone preseved in a glass case, placed near the elevator's lefthand side.
  • Order is the first final boss in Splatoon history that doesn't come from the past, being an infant compared to DJ Octavio, Commander Tartar, and Mr. Grizz.
    • Order is also the first final boss with boss subtitles that change depending on how many successful runs players have undergone after beating Overlorder, with each title containing a numerical pun.
  • In the English version of the game, Smollusk speaks by having its L's replaced with W's in a manner that can be considered childlike, to further portray its smaller and weaker nature.

Etymology

Overlorder is a portmanteau of "overlord" and "Order".

Smollusk is a portmanteau of "smol", a internet slang variant of "small" that is usually used to describe something that is cute and small, and "mollusk".
