Splatlings are one of the main weapon classes in the Splatoon series.
These gatling gun- or rotary cannon-style weapons can be charged in order to rapidly fire a steady stream of ink projectiles.
The first weapon in this class, the Heavy Splatling, was released in Version 2.0.0 of Splatoon on August 6, 2015.
General mechanics
With the ability to hold to charge and build up greater range, lethality, and painting ability, splatlings are broadly similar to chargers. However, unlike chargers, all splatlings have two levels of charge. The first level increases the range and firing duration, while the second level is faster to charge and increases the firing duration even further but has no effect on range. While their stats vary, most have a high fire rate, low damage, and long range. Additionally, while most splatlings lack the ability to begin a new charge without first exhausting their current one (whether by firing all projectiles or cancelling it entirely by entering swim form), some varieties can immediately interrupt their volleys and begin a new charge by simply holding .
List of splatlings
Note: The series are arranged by their respective order in the weapon select screen with the Main filter.
Series | Description | Variants | Games | ||
---|---|---|---|---|---|
Mini Splatling |
A light splatling with a short charge time but shorter range. It allows users to strafe quickly while charging and firing. | Mini Splatling | ✓ | ✓ | ✓ |
Zink Mini Splatling | ✓ | ✓ | ✓ | ||
Refurbished Mini Splatling | ✓ | ||||
Kensa Mini Splatling | ✓ | ||||
Heavy Splatling |
The standard splatling. Its stats are well-rounded, having no glaring strengths or weaknesses. | Heavy Splatling | ✓ | ✓ | ✓ |
Heavy Splatling Deco | ✓ | ✓ | ✓ | ||
Heavy Splatling Remix | ✓ | ✓ | |||
Hero Splatling Replica | ✓ | ||||
Order Splatling Replica | ✓ | ||||
Hydra Splatling |
The Splatling with the longest range in its class. It can fire continuously for a lengthy period of time, with the drawback being its ink hunger and high charge time. When fully charged, a high-damage feature activates, allowing users to splat opponents with three hits. | Hydra Splatling | ✓ | ✓ | ✓ |
Custom Hydra Splatling | ✓ | ✓ | ✓ | ||
Ballpoint Splatling |
A Splatling with two different firing modes, an initial short ranged firing mode with a high fire rate and a secondary firing mode that has a slower fire rate but longer range and perfect accuracy. Unlike most other splatlings, it can interrupt its fire to recharge. Upon completing a full charge, subsequent charges will retain the secondary mode attributes until the charge is entirely expended. | Ballpoint Splatling | ✓ | ✓ | |
Ballpoint Splatling Nouveau | ✓ | ✓ | |||
Nautilus |
A shorter ranged Splatling with a medium charge rate. The weapon boasts the ability to store its charge much like some chargers and can interrupt its fire to recharge. Its accuracy in the air is comparable to its accuracy when grounded. | Nautilus 47 | ✓ | ✓ | |
Nautilus 79 | ✓ | ✓ | |||
Heavy Edit Splatling |
A Splatling with a slow charge time, but a very high fire rate when fully charged. | Heavy Edit Splatling | ✓ | ||
Heavy Edit Splatling Nouveau | ✓ |
Special Splatlings
The following splatling(s) are only available outside of battles as part of other modes:
Weapon | Description | Games | ||
---|---|---|---|---|
Hero Splatling |
A splatling similar to the Heavy Splatling only used in Octo Canyon. Upon completion of all missions in Octo Canyon using the Hero Splatling, the player will unlock the Hero Splatling Replica for use in battles. | ✓ | ||
Order Splatling |
A splatling similar to the Heavy Splatling only used in Side Order when equipping DJ Octavio's Palette. Upon successful completion of a run with this Palette equipped, the player will unlock the Order Splatling Replica for use in battles. | ✓ |

Quotes
“ | Squid Research Lab Weapons Division here, checking in with our latest findings on splatlings. These heavy-duty weapons are designed to charge up and then unleash a torrent of rapid-fire ink. They usually don't offer much in the way of mobility, but when they hit, they hit. | ” | — @SplatoonNA on Twitter[1]

Trivia
Splatoon
- There are no splatlings that have Seeker, Ink Mine, or Squid Beakon as their sub weapon.
Splatoon 2
- There are no splatlings with Splat Bomb, Fizzy Bomb, or Torpedo or any kind of Bomb Launcher as their special weapon.
- According to dataminers, the Nautilus 79's set consisted of Splat Bomb and Ink Armor prior to its release, but this was changed upon its release in Version 4.3.0.
