Splatlings are one of the five Main Weapon classifications in Splatoon. These Gatling-style weapons function like Chargers, where they require time to charge up to increase effectiveness.  Though, rather than extend damage and range, a Splatling's charge instead increases the weapon's fire duration.

The first weapon in this class, the Heavy Splatling, was released in the August Update on August 6th.
Splatlings are one of the main weapon classes in the Ss.

*The Heavy Splatling Series

**Heavy Splatling – The first available Splatling in Splatoon. It has to be charged up a bit before it can shoot, and then shoots rapid-fire ink bullets in a long line until it has to be charged again. Comes with the Splash Wall and the Inkstrike.
The first weapon in this class, the Heavy Splatling, was released in Version S of S on August 6, 2015.
*The Mini Splatling Series

**Mini Splatling – A smaller Splatling variant that has a fast charge time and great mobility at the cost of range and firing duration. It comes in a set with Suction Bombs and the Inkzooka.

With the ability to hold ZR to charge and build up greater range, lethality, and painting ability, splatlings are broadly similar to chargers. However, unlike chargers, all splatlings have two levels of charge. The first level increases the range and firing duration, while the second level is faster to charge and increases the firing duration even further but has no effect on range. While their stats vary, most have a high fire rate, low damage, and long range. Additionally, while most splatlings lack the ability to begin a new charge without first exhausting their current one (whether by firing all projectiles or cancelling it entirely by entering swim form), some varieties can immediately interrupt their volleys and begin a new charge by simply holding ZR.

Victory:
* Both genders hop from foot to foot while smiling and swinging their weapon from side to side, jump twice, then hug their weapon while shaking it, along with a slight sway in excitement. The Inkling Boy additionally hops on each foot.

Defeat:
* Both genders rest their weapon on the ground before they move their head and left hand in a disappointingly dumbfounded way.

In Ammo Knights (Clicking RS):
* Both genders pick their weapon up to look at it, seeming as though they are surprised by its weight.

Splatoon 2
Spawning in before a match starts:
* Both Inklings and Octolings raise their weapon a bit after shaking off their excess ink.

Victory:
* Inklings: Holds their weapon along their right shoulder while winking and giving a related hand gesture before placing their weapon to their left, with their hand positioned on top of the barrels.
* Octoling Girl: Has her weapon at an angle, barrel down before striking a pose and doing a jazzy gesture with her left hand.
* Octoling Boy: Similar to the Octoling Girl's, but instead holds his neck while moving his head before doing jazz hands but standing straight.

Defeat:
* Inklings: Rests their weapon on the ground and shakes their head in disappointment.
* Octoling Girl: Similar to her Victory animation but reacts in a frustrated manner before proceeding to poke at her weapon.
* Octoling Boy: Leans on and stares at weapon while pointing at it, as if blaming it.

In Ammo Knights (Clicking RS):
* Inklings: Same as Splatoon.
* Octolings: Looks down at weapon, then poses as if firing it. After this they go back to standing normally and looking at it again.

Splatoon 3
Spawner pose:
* All styles: Stands perpendicular to their weapon.

Victory:
* Flip Out: Spins the weapon around them four times anticlockwise, then throws it in the air and quickly grabs and poses with it.
* Reppin' Inkopolis: The player dances in a circle, twirls their splatling into the air, catches it, and hugs it to their chest with a large smile.

In Ammo Knights (Clicking RS):
* Inklings: The player will look over the weapon from the top before lifting it up and down three times, then swing the weapon to the right before swinging it back and getting into a pose like they are shooting.
* Octolings: The player will hoist the weapon up and shake it as if they are shooting it, jumping to their left and doing the same before looking down at the weapon and looking it over before nodding.

A promotional image for Splatoon 3 featuring an Octoling wielding the Hydra Splatling, a weapon in the Splatling class.

Splatlings are one of the main weapon classes in the Splatoon series.

These gatling gun- or rotary cannon-style weapons can be charged in order to rapidly fire a steady stream of ink projectiles.

The first weapon in this class, the Heavy Splatling, was released in Version 2.0.0 of Splatoon on August 6, 2015.

General mechanics

With the ability to hold to charge and build up greater range, lethality, and painting ability, splatlings are broadly similar to chargers. However, unlike chargers, all splatlings have two levels of charge. The first level increases the range and firing duration, while the second level is faster to charge and increases the firing duration even further but has no effect on range. While their stats vary, most have a high fire rate, low damage, and long range. Additionally, while most splatlings lack the ability to begin a new charge without first exhausting their current one (whether by firing all projectiles or cancelling it entirely by entering swim form), some varieties can immediately interrupt their volleys and begin a new charge by simply holding .

Animations

Splatoon

Victory:

 • Both genders hop from foot to foot while smiling and swinging their weapon from side to side, jump twice, then hug their weapon while shaking it, along with a slight sway in excitement. The Inkling Boy additionally hops on each foot.

Defeat:

 • Both genders rest their weapon on the ground before they move their head and left hand in a disappointingly dumbfounded way.

In Ammo Knights (Clicking Right Stick):

 • Both genders pick their weapon up to look at it, seeming as though they are surprised by its weight.

Splatoon 2

Spawning in before a match starts:

 • Both Inklings and Octolings raise their weapon a bit after shaking off their excess ink.

Victory:

 • Inklings: Holds their weapon along their right shoulder while winking and giving a related hand gesture before placing their weapon to their left, with their hand positioned on top of the barrels.
 • Octoling Girl: Has her weapon at an angle, barrel down before striking a pose and doing a jazzy gesture with her left hand.
 • Octoling Boy: Similar to the Octoling Girl's, but instead holds his neck while moving his head before doing jazz hands but standing straight.

Defeat:

 • Inklings: Rests their weapon on the ground and shakes their head in disappointment.
 • Octoling Girl: Similar to her Victory animation but reacts in a frustrated manner before proceeding to poke at her weapon.
 • Octoling Boy: Leans on and stares at weapon while pointing at it, as if blaming it.

In Ammo Knights (Clicking ):

 • Inklings: Same as Splatoon.
 • Octolings: Looks down at weapon, then poses as if firing it. After this they go back to standing normally and looking at it again.

Splatoon 3

Spawner pose:

 • All styles: Stands perpendicular to their weapon.

Victory:

 • Flip Out: Spins the weapon around them four times anticlockwise, then throws it in the air and quickly grabs and poses with it.
 • Reppin' Inkopolis: The player dances in a circle, twirls their splatling into the air, catches it, and hugs it to their chest with a large smile.

In Ammo Knights (Clicking ):

 • Inklings: The player will look over the weapon from the top before lifting it up and down three times, then swing the weapon to the right before swinging it back and getting into a pose like they are shooting.
 • Octolings: The player will hoist the weapon up and shake it as if they are shooting it, jumping to their left and doing the same before looking down at the weapon and looking it over before nodding.

Quotes

Squid Research Lab Weapons Division here, checking in with our latest findings on splatlings. These heavy-duty weapons are designed to charge up and then unleash a torrent of rapid-fire ink. They usually don't offer much in the way of mobility, but when they hit, they hit.
