The Echolocator is a Special Weapon in Splatoon. When activated, enemies' positions are revealed to the player for twelve seconds.

Once activated, a digital explosion effect occurs around the user as they send black squid-shaped arrows flying to enemy players. Said arrows are black with highlights in the user's ink color. When activated, it marks all active opponents with black circling squids that can be seen through obstacles by the user's team.

* Base marking duration is 9 seconds.
Tips
** The duration can be extended with Special Duration Up.
*This special is especially useful for tracking players who use Ninja Squid, as their locations will be revealed regardless of the ability.
** The duration is reduced by 50% if the tagged opponent has Cold-Blooded.
*Since the Echolocator refills the player's ink supply upon use, but does not affect the actual weapon, it can be effectively used as a free, instant refill when ink is running low.
** The tag disappears if the opponent gets splatted and does not carry over to their next life.
*This special is very useful for Chargers, as they know exactly where all the players are, in or out of ink, allowing a much easier shot.
* The special gauge is emptied immediately upon use (instead of slowly depleting over time), allowing the user to refill it immediately after use.
*When the player uses this special, four arrows spread and fly to the enemies from the player. These effects are also able to be seen by the enemies, even if hiding in ink puddle. In the worst case, the player can be found.

Countering
*The ability Cold Blooded will reduce the amount of time the player's location is revealed by the Echolocator by 75%.
*Little else can be done to counter the effects of this special, so taking up a defensive playstyle for the duration of the special can help players stay alive.
