The Splatana Wiper is a main weapon in Splatoon 3.

Appearance

The Splatana Wiper resembles a car windshield wiper with what appears to be a long yellow sponge as the "blade" and a hilt of a badminton racket.

The Splatana Wiper was revealed in the Splatoon 3 Direct on 10 August 2022. Pressing allows for quick horizontal slashes that fire ink, but holding the button will charge it for a more powerful vertical slash, which can instantly splat opponents at close range.

The Splatana’s projectiles are perfectly accurate, even when jumping, and the weapon has a very fast strafe-speed while performing uncharged slashes - though unaffected by Run Speed Up - which combined with its ability to ink long lines quickly, make it a very mobile weapon.

Moving forward while firing the charged shot will allow the player to lunge forward a short distance, which will also delay the slash until the end of the lunge. The player cannot lunge after jumping.

Charged slashes from the Splatana Wiper appear to only have one segment, unlike the Splatana Stamper’s larger charged slash. In practice, this means that the slash can be blocked entirely if it grazes a ledge or ceiling, for example beneath the rotating walls in Museum d’Alfonsino.

Wide Slash

The Splatana Wiper has an unnamed critical attack system, dubbed ‘Wide Slash’ or ‘Thick Slash’ by some players. On the first slash of every six-slash cycle, the weapon spreads much more ink than usual, for both uncharged and charged slashes - however, a charged slash does not increment the counter.

By using uncharged slashes to tick the counter to the Wide Slash, and then only performing charged slashes to avoid further ticking the counter, the player can perform many Wide Slashes in a row, increasing the painting power of the Splatana Wiper substantially.

The player’s position in the Wide Slash cycle is randomised upon joining a match, respawning, using the Ultra Stamp, attempting to perform a slash while too low on ink. The counter can also be randomised outside of matches in certain cases, such as by entering the locker room or the upstairs lobby and then exiting to re-equip the weapon.

Whether resetting the counter is a trait unique to the Ultra Stamp or applies to all specials (for example in Salmon Run) is currently unknown.

Using the Torpedo does not randomise the counter, even if the player is too low on ink to throw it.

There are two main methods to find the Wide Slash after being randomised:

  1. Perform a charged slash, then if the slash isn’t wide, perform an uncharged slash to tick the counter, and repeat. This is the easier method, but costs the player’s attention for longer.
  2. Perform uncharged slashes until you see an uncharged Wide Slash, then perform five more uncharged slashes to return to the Wide Slash. This is more difficult to see and count out, but the player only needs to pay attention to the ink patterns for at most five slashes.

Once the player has found the Wide Slash, performing six uncharged slashes will return them to the Wide Slash.

Whether consecutive Wide Slashes are a bug is contended, as they reward the player for staying focussed and paying close attention to their weapon, as is a common depiction of ninja and samurai who often wield a katana. However, neither the Wide Slash cycle nor consecutive Wide Slashes have been addressed in or out of the game.

Sheldon's Introduction

The Splatana Wiper is part of an entirely new category of weapons known as splatanas! These sword-like slashers can fling ink through the power of centrifugal force. To do a basic horizontal slash, just press . But you can also hold to unleash a vertical slash that will really send some ink flying! On top of that, if you perform a vertical slash while tilting a bit forward, you'll step forward with the attack, adding enough power to flatten most foes. Paired with the Torpedo sub, you can slash across the battlefield and level your enemies with a single stroke. It's almost too good! And I haven't even mentioned the Ultra Stamp special yet. If the other team hasn't surrendered, the Ultra Stamp is sure to make 'em think twice. If you want to be among the first trailblazers in the splatana-fighting genre, this set is for you!

Let's look at the Splatana Wiper. This is a thin, user-friendly splatana that uses sponge technology to ensure a balanced ink-fling with every swipe. Use horizontal slashes like jabs to keep opponents at bay while infiltrating enemy territory with your superior mobility!
