Category for files that have been scaled to smaller dimensions.
Resizing is done because Inkipedia cannot display thumbnails for PNG files larger than 12.5 MegaPixels. The issue does not impact JPG files.
When uploading PNG files larger than 12.5 MP, it is suggested to upload the original size first, then upload the resized file. This way, readers can access the original size by viewing the file history on the file page, and we can easily revert to the original size when the technical situation changes.
To determine if a PNG file is larger than 12.5 MegaPixels, upload the file and then see if the thumbnail generates. Alternatively, you can calculate the MP with this online calculator.
The 12.5 MP limitation was set through the $wgMaxImageArea configuration setting. The limit was set to avoid a technical issue where the software used to generate thumbnails, ImageMagick, uses excessive memory and becomes unstable.
