File talk:S2 Merch Sun Art Splattershot Green & Pink Ink.jpg

From Inkipedia, the Splatoon wiki

Is this a Sun Art or a Doshisha product?

So, I've noticed that there's contradictory info on the internet regarding who made this piece of merch.

  • On this page it's stated that the manufacturer is "Sun Art".
  • On amazon it's selled by "Doshisha". On other pages with this image Doshisha is mentioned as well.

I recently changed the pagename of this file from Sun Art to Doshisha to after realize about the first url existence, and now I'm confused. wmyttmlimvty (talk) 00:32, 6 April 2024 (UTC)Reply[reply]

I found a current ebay listing for the pink ink version, which lists the manufacturer as Sun Art. More importantly they have a photo of the bottom of the box, which lists Sun Art's name (サンアート) and their phone number (can be easily google searched to confirm) next to the barcode.
I'm pretty sure Doshisha made the water guns for the first game (as seen in this Nintendolife article from 2016, sourcing from a play-asia page where the manufacturer is listed as Doshisha) , maybe that's where people are getting confused? Sourguppyworm (talk) 01:16, 6 April 2024 (UTC)Reply[reply]
Hi Sourguppyworm, thank you so much for the info.
I'm having the same issue with Splatoon 3's water toys, specially with the 70cm Swim ring, the 40cm Beach ball and the Inflatable pool.
Could you take a look at it and see if you discover anything abt them? Thank you so so much!✨ wmyttmlimvty (talk) 01:29, 6 April 2024 (UTC)Reply[reply]
Of course! This Japanese article seems to list all of those water toys as Sun Art, again with the barcodes and telephone numbers. While the article is unofficial, the barcode numbers line up with the products if you search for them, and the images they include are also listed on the source pages they link.
During this research, I found info that points to Doshisha handling their distribution in at least some cases. Here is the Splatoon section of the Doshisha Prize website, where it lists the Splattershots, Splat Charger, and Tri-Stringer as being sold by Sun Art. Unfortunately the Internet Archive does not have any pages for the site prior to 2022, so I can't be completely sure of Doshisha's part in this in the past. I wish I could search harder for it, but I don't speak Japanese which makes this pretty hard already 😅 Sourguppyworm (talk) 03:31, 6 April 2024 (UTC)Reply[reply]
So Sun Art was the manufacturer and Doshisha the distributor in some cases? wmyttmlimvty (talk) 03:44, 6 April 2024 (UTC)Reply[reply]
Yes, that seems to be correct. I mostly mentioned it to clear up what their association with the S2/S3 toys could be, but it seems I forgot to clarify that haha. Sourguppyworm (talk) 04:26, 6 April 2024 (UTC)Reply[reply]
Alright cool ty! One last thing, could you figure out somehow if Doshisha did manufacture any of Splatoon 2's water toys or they were all manufactured by Sun Art and some of them distributed by Doshisha as in Splatoon 3? With this last piece of info I'll be ready to edit both articles more accurately! TYSM wmyttmlimvty (talk) 04:34, 6 April 2024 (UTC)Reply[reply]
No problem! I found this US Mercari listing for the Splatoon 2 swim rings, this JP Mercari listing for the beach ball, this Yahoo Auctions Japan listing for the green beach mat, this JP Mercari listing for the arm rings, and this JP Mercari listing for the squid float, all of which have photos of the back of the packaging that show Sun Art's name and telephone number.
Also, I have to correct my statement about the Splatoon 1 water guns, as out of curiosity I double checked and it seems Play-Asia's listed manufacturer information cannot be trusted, they are still made by Sun Art. this JP Mercari listing also shows the back of the Splatoon 1 water gun's box, and it has the same Sun Art info as the other water toys I mentioned above.
It's rather confusing that Doshisha is associated with them more than Sun Art (especially in English language listings), despite the fact they seem to not actually make them...? Sourguppyworm (talk) 18:57, 6 April 2024 (UTC)Reply[reply]
Okay thank you. I'll be listing all the info on this Sandbox the next weeks with all the sources to later decide how to modify the merchandise pages. Feel free to edit the Sandbox as well if you want to, and thanks again for your help with this :D (you don't need to do anything else if you don't feel like to).
