User:ArgentuTA164/Splatoon 4 Ideas
I have come up with plentiful ideas for Splatoon 4 and I thought it would be nice to share them as well as document them.
Main gimmick
My main gimmick idea is elemental ink - your ink would have different effects based on the element you chose! It goes off of the idea of the "fire, water, air, earth" quartet of elements.
Elemental Ink Effects | ||||
---|---|---|---|---|
Element | Effect | |||
Normal spread | Explosion | Status effect | Tracking | |
Fire | Ink will spread outwards at a moderate pace, but does not spread up or down walls. Lower range payoff. Melts frozen ink and ice. |
??? | Toxic Mist will damage players who walk through it but their speed will be lowered less. | Fire-tracked players will move faster but be unable to stop until the tracking wears off. |
Water | Ink will freeze over and become slippery, and will break after a while and become normal ink. Less efficiency payoff. Can be melted by fire ink. |
Explosions have very little power but will freeze players in place if they come into contact with it. The ice melts after a while. They can also attempt to break free from the ice by mashing buttons. |
Toxic Mist will freeze players if they come into contact with it. They will also melt when the mist disappears. | Water-tracked players will move as if they were on ice. |
Air | Ink will shoot further. Less power payoff. Brellas will allow the player to fall slower if they still have their canopy and not in swim form. |
Explosions have less power but will fling enemies away. Will break rocks. |
??? | Air-tracked players will be slowly rising into the air, unable to move much. |
Earth | Ink is stickier and harder to move through. | Creates a giant rock that prevents the area from being inked on or moved through for a while. Can be destroyed by air-bombs. |
??? | Earth-tracked players are unable to jump or dodge-roll. |
General Gameplay
Modes
Pretty much all modes from Splatoon 2 onwards will return.
Hero Mode | The story mode of Splatoon 4. |
---|---|
Turf War | Cover the most turf in your team's ink in three minutes to win. |
Splat Zones | Maintain control of the zone(s) for about 100 seconds to win. |
Tower Control | Stay on the tower and ride it to the enemy's base to win. |
Rainmaker | Take the super-powerful Rainmaker through the checkpoint and to the enemy's base to win. |
Clam Blitz | Fill the enemy's goal with 100 clams to win. |
Salmon Run | Defeat the three waves of enemies and meet quotas for some cash. |
Special Battles
Aside from the classics, there are also some extra multiplayer modes!
Tricolor Turf War
Tricolor Turf War returns from Splatoon 3. Every map has a Tricolor layout now, and it can be played at any time - including during Splatfests! It can't appear during a Splatfest with only two teams.
Quad-Color Turf War
A Turf War with... four colors? Quad-Color Turf War is also available at any time and has its own unique set of maps to facilitate its nonsense! It can't appear during a Splatfest with two or theee teams.
Free-for-All Turf War
Eight colors??? That's just ridiculous. Witness true chaos in this 8-player Free-for-All Turf War! Scramble to be the one with more ink on the ground than the other 7 players! It also has its own set of maps... obviously.
Monocolor Turf War
A normal 4v4 Splatfest but both teams have the same color. Simply have fun and hope you win!
Past Idols
Past idols will be hanging around town. If you talk to them, they'll ask if you want to talk a break, and they"ll play in your stead. Each idol will have a kit unique to them, and if you win enough matches, they'll lend you a replica of their kit. (Big Man would either let you take up two slots to account for his unique playstyle, or he would give you his amiibo outfit and weapon temporarily and ask for them back afterwards.)
The Main Hub
The game takes place in Centerpoint Lake, in the land of Meridia. There's a city built on top of a great lake with multiple roads built to cross the lake to get to the city. In the true center of the city, there's an elevated section, where there are 4 grassy segments with a stage on each one separated by the plus shaped walkway. To the north, there's the entrance to the palace, where the story mode is accessed. To the west and east, there are the staircases to get to and from the lower level of the city. Going south leads you to the shopping district, where you can get clothes and the like.
The west sector of the city will lead you to a bus stop to let you go to the beach, where you can play Salmon Run. The east sector will bring you to the Multiplayer Zone, which lets you access the Lobby and the Shoal, as well as the weapons shop and the testing grounds.
Splatfests
Splatfests can have 2, 3, or 4 teams, as sometimes the idols will agree on certain matters. Just like in Splatoon 3, they are split up into two days. All previous idols will appear during a Splatfest and will behave mostly as normal. Every idol will be affiliated with a team, and every team will have at least one idol affiliated with it.
Day 1
During the first day of a Splatfest, each of the past idols will be found in the section according to the team they're on. You can talk to them and play as them for some Splatfest fun, and they'll have their usual special kits. In addition, you can also talk to the idol performing and play as them, which will allow you to swap out their performance with that of a previous idol.
Day 2
During the second day of the Splatfest, all of the current idols gather on the halftime leader's section and perform their Day 2 song. While you can still play as the previous idols (who are on your team), you will not be able to play as the current idols on Day 2.

Hero Mode
Meridia is a place of very diverse locations. The Hero Mode would take place not too far away from Centerpoint Lake. In fact, most areas in it would be visible from the hub, and the diversity is used to make multiplayer more interesting. It's not impossible that the player will come across a multiplayer map during their adventure.
World 1
Field of Color
The Field of Color is the first area the player visits. More or less a typical prairie, still filled to the brim with natural predators. The grass here is technicolor and very resistant to elemental ink, making it perfect for testing the player's powers.
Sludge-Filled Mine
An old, abandoned coal mine filled with a strange sludge. The player can hear someone jamming out deeper within, despite the extremely high temperatures. The mine gets so hot that if the player tries to use water ink, the ice will melt immediately.
World 2
Conscious Desert
A pretty hot desert, at this point the player would feel like they're being cooked. They see an oasis in the distance, but is it just a mirage? The desert is so hot that if the player tries to use water ink, the ice will melt immediately.
Pulse Oasis
The oasis was real, but it has some pretty strong geysers. The temperature is much more pleasant here, and elemental ink will act normally. Those geysers are REALLY strong though, so maybe don't step on- aaaaand there they go.
Snowy Steppe
The player never gets to catch a break - they're now on a frigid plateau covered in snow! The temperatures here are so cold that water ink will never melt unless fire ink is used. Fire ink also cannot spread. Interestingly, the player can hear heavy rock and a waterfall nearby. Are the two related?
World 3
The Great Meridian Mountain
The largest mountain in Meridia. The climates here are almost as diverse as the rest of Meridia, and they're much more compact. From the blazing sun melting the ice to a cold snap freesing your ink to a strange quicksand pit that has no reason to be on a mountain, the player truly cannot catch a break. As the player gets closer to the top, they'll begin to hear some... classy dance music? Who would willingly come up here and who would dance at the top???
World 4
Cumulonimbus Chaos
A staircase made of clouds has allowed the player to enter a giant cumulonimbus cloud with a solid floor. The operatic singing seems to have an effect on the clouds around them...wait, who's singing an opera in the middle of a cumulonimbus cloud?
World 5
I don't have any ideas but it would be REALLY high up and have a day-night system.

Name | Mode | Description |
Terrible Tower Trinity | Bicolor | A set of two tall towers with a third, taller one in the middle, that all have zip tracks, inkrails, and hidden ride rails leading to the tops. The Splat Zones are on the two smaller towers. The Tower starts at the top of the taller tower and goes down one of the pathways on said tower, before climbing a smaller tower and then crossing a gap before reaching the goal. The Rainmaker checkpoint is on one of the smaller towers, and the goal is the top tower. |
Tricolor | The layout is completely different. The taller tower now forms a large triangle formation with the smaller towers, and acts as the spawn point for the defending team, who spawn together. The smaller towers act as the spawn points for the attacking teams. There's also now a large, slim pole that cannot be climbed in the middle of the stage and is help up by ropes. This tower provides the landing point for the first Sprinkler of Doom. The second landing point is between the center and the spawn points of the successful team and the defending team. | |
Duo Division | Quad-Color | A turf war where you have to work with your partner, who is separated from you, to get out of your spawn area as fast as possible. The actual battlefield is on a lower level, and is made up of many gaps that lead straight into water and must be jumped over. Getting splatted will not result in needing to struggle out again. |
Grand Centerpoint Mall | Free-for-All | A large indoor two-floor mall. 4 players spawn on the first floor, the other 4 spawn on the secojd floor right above them. |
Floating Archipelago | Bicolor | A randomly generated three-layered grid of floating islands. All teams will begin on the same layer. Every island will always connect to an island adjacent to it, by inkrail or ride rail. Some rails will lead up or down. Instead of needing to ink the most turf, your team needs to have the most islands claimed at the end. |
Quad-Color | ||
Free-for-All | ||
Tricolor | The defending team will spawn on opposite sides of each other, as will the attacking teams. The attacking teams will also spawn on the top and bottom layer respectively, while the defending team starts on the middle layer. The same win condition applies. |
