The Great Turf War was a long and vigorous war fought between the Octolings and the Inklings.

Sunken Scrolls

The Great Turf War is mentioned a little throughout Hero Mode, the game's single player campaign. However, other than a minute-or-so long spiel from Cap'n Cuttlefish to explain the Octolings' motives behind stealing the Great Zapfish, the player isn't given much insight as to what actually happened during the turf war. However, more can be discovered about the war if a player goes through the single player levels to collect the sunken scrolls.
