Inkipedia:Requests for Rights/Archives/LakePuddle

Hello! I'm Requesting for Patroller rights. I've been considering whether to do this for a few hours, and ultimantley decided to do so, so here are some reasons:

Activity- Even if I don't edit, I do check the wiki almost everyday for atleast an hour. (I did have a few months of inactivity over the summer, but im back at it again!)

Experience- I have good wiki editing experience, with 1,500+ edits (some minor, I will admit) combined across wikimedia foundation projects. I admit some of my earlier edits on here arent the best, but I have a good hang of it now and always have good intent when making edits.

Understanding- Adding on to the last topic, I have a good understanding of formatting and style, and what is/isn't apropriate on the wiki.

Friendliness/aproachability- I always assume good faith first, and will give advice and critiqes rather than just telling a user they did something wrong. I try to be as nice as possible, but I can hold a user accountable for their actions when needed as well.

I beleive thats all the points I had, so have a nice day and thank you for considering my request! PuddleS3 Decoration abyssal squid friend.png 20:20, 30 March 2024 (UTC)

  1. Two major sticking points for me. The first is that while you have stated some form of experience (which is still not a ton or verified with links to other sites), it does not really justify giving you additional rights in any way. Nothing presented demonstrates that being a Patroller will help you with your editing, projects, or the community—it just seems like this is being done for the purpose of having the rank with it. Is there something Patrollers have that you need or would vastly improve your editing prowess? It doesn't seem so based off your contributions log. Furthermore, I have a really difficult time signing off on someone being a patroller when their request to be one has multiple spelling errors. Give it some more time, I suggest. 2. I agree with what Trig says. Being a Patroller is not about getting a fancy title for being a good editor- Patrollers have responsibilities that are laid out here. In short, Patrollers are expected to ensure quality and correctness on the site, reviewing edits that other users make, assisting other editors with editing, and making sure that edits that break the rules are reverted. If you do not want these responsibilities, then you have no need for Patroller rights, which is perfectly fine. You do not need to be a staff member to make significant contributions to Inkipedia, and plenty of highly respected editors are not staff. XarrotD (talk) 18:52, 31 March 2024 (UTC)
  3. I agree with what has been said by Trig and XarrotD. Being a Patroller is more than just having a title. It comes with a lot of responsibilities. You did not specify what tools a Patroller has access to that you would like to be able to use. One does not need Patroller rights to make high quality edits. One thing that stands out to me is you mentioned you considered requesting rights for a few hours specifically. Being a Patroller is a pretty big commitment, and I would suggest thinking it over more. S3 Badge Nautilus 47 5.pngFancyRatCredits - Inkling Boy Eating Popsicle.png 20:07, 31 March 2024 (UTC)
  4. You have plenty of edits and more than a year of experience of Inkipedia, which is good. However, I'm not fully convinced; I believe that people who already do the patroller tasks (checking recent changes, reverting vandalism, improving upon others' edits, notifying editors about recurring mistakes and how to improve, etc.) are the ones who should get the patroller role. The role isn't needed to do any of the tasks; the role just adds things that make it slightly easier to do the tasks. At Inkipedia, we have to be careful about patroller promotions because our patroller role has a lot more authority than patroller roles on other wikis. Work on your spelling (I see 8 errors), and go ahead and do the patrolling tasks that you want to do, and then submit another request a few months later, and I would be happy to approve. Responding to Trig's opposition, I apologize for not providing any links to my Wikipedia edits initially, so here's my userpage, and here's an in-detail overview of my edits. I understand how it may look like I'm only interested in the title, however I genuinely am interested and want to help with the task that comes along with it, not the title. Additionally, I read all the rules/tasks that being a patroller entails, and even went through and read nearly all of the archived requests for rights before submitting my request to get a good idea of the job. Many of my edits on Wikipedia involve tediously looking through edits and pages for small things and/or errors like fixing template spacing or adding stub notices. I also do a good amount of combing through new users edits on Wikipedia to check for vandalism, though most of the time I do find any someone's already fixed it because of the amount of people who do the same thing, however that likely wouldn't be as much of an issue due to Inkipedia being much smaller in that regard. The past two sentences specifically are a big part of why I am interested in being a patroller and are why I believe patroller would be a good task for me. Thank you for reading this (again). I do understand everyone's opposition points, and obviously everyone if free to their own opinions and I apologize if it came off as passive aggressive at any point. Though hopefully I didn't.
