How to handle lyric colors when two people sing?

Liquid Sunshine has parts where two and three people sing together, but I don't know how we should handle it when it's Callie + Marie, Callie +Ian or Marie + Ian (three people should be simply black). Mslabo102 (talk) 14:37, 29 March 2023 (UTC)Reply[reply]

I think the easiest solution would be to add more colors for the combinations, and add some sort of key before the lyrics section to explain which represents which...I don't think it would be too intrusive to the layout? I've seen other wikis that color code lyrics use that sort of thing before. (I was going to make an example, but it seems like tables might not work on talk pages (or at least not in the preview) which is...not totally surprising it is probably a weird thing to try to do on a talk page >_>)
Really the most finicky part to me would be having to pick new colors for each combination that wouldn't be too ambiguous, but having the key on the page would probably solve most of that problem... Pringlesfan2002 (talk) 15:14, 29 March 2023 (UTC)Reply[reply]
I went ahead and made an example of what I meant and put it on my Sandbox page, since I still wasn't sure if it wouldn't be broken if I put it here...I'm not sure if the use of the table might seem awkward or not, and my hasty color choices are admittedly not very good, but it's kind of just an example... All three or just two as black seems fine... unless there's a way to make text gradient. -Random 16:04, 29 March 2023 (UTC)Reply[reply]
This may be a bit cursed, but
にゅうぇ り ようぇにゅ
is something that is possible. (Doesn't mean it should be done, just so you know...) Harimaron (talk) 16:40, 29 March 2023 (UTC)Reply[reply]
Cute! I tried it out but when I did it, none of the text appeared, so I think it might need to be fixed up a bit, but it's possible. If all else fails, black is still a fine color to use.-Random 17:19, 29 March 2023 (UTC)Reply[reply]
I made a template for this in my sandbox: User:Harimaron/Sandbox/Template:MultiColor
Again, I am not saying it should be used. This may need further discussion but I think it looks rather bad. Also this way of marking is not accessible to visually impaired visitors. Harimaron (talk) 10:05, 30 March 2023 (UTC)Reply[reply]
Per Manual of Style, colored text should generally be avoided. We have a few exceptions that everyone seems to agree on, but I don't think this is such a case. For accessibility, this info should be communicated with text, not color. Heddy (talk) 18:30, 8 April 2023 (UTC)Reply[reply]
How about we use superscript to mark the singers? Something like:

C/M:にゅわ M:る ゆうぇに

I made the full example in my sandbox. Harimaron (talk) 11:10, 30 March 2023 (UTC)Reply[reply]
I think we might need someone's approval on this because we've never done it before for lyrics... I don't know, it's not that serious of an issue. ☹️ I think the template idea is the best idea for this. Again, if all else fails, we can just use black as the color for everyone.-Random 12:31, 30 March 2023 (UTC)Reply[reply]
I think your version containing both superscript and multi color-coded text is ideal. Yoshifan52 (talk) 19:39, 30 March 2023 (UTC)Reply[reply]
That feels like too much. I think multi color-coded text is enough. -Random 19:51, 30 March 2023 (UTC)Reply[reply]
The first rule of web content accessibility is that, any non-text content (colours for marking singers in this case) must have a text alternative, so having only colouring is a no go to me. Harimaron (talk) 19:57, 30 March 2023 (UTC)Reply[reply]
Even if the multi-color text is not preferred, adding superscript indications of which idol is singing which lyrics with a legend above are more helpful than the simple colored text. OTH's song pages could also benefit from having those added. Yoshifan52 (talk) 23:09, 30 March 2023 (UTC)Reply[reply]
Do both color + text indications in my opinion. I would ordinarily be against the color additions and the MoS backs this up. However, we stick closely to canon material and the Liquid Sunshine official video has this format. I find that this is a good exception. Noting accessibility concerns, we should have subscript indicators too. Slate Talk Contribs 20:40, 8 April 2023 (UTC)Reply[reply]
The MoS notes that we are coloring a single portion of text, but this is not for emphasis or to "be cool". Slate Talk Contribs 20:42, 8 April 2023 (UTC)Reply[reply]
So do we add subscript and colored text to all the pages for music that have official lyrics? -Random 12:59, 10 April 2023 (UTC)Reply[reply]
Does all music that have official lyrics also have said lyrics in multi-color form? If so, yes. Slate Talk Contribs 19:49, 10 April 2023 (UTC)Reply[reply]
Okay. -Random 20:17, 10 April 2023 (UTC)Reply[reply]
Following the update to the MoS, I created a new template {{ColoredLyrics}} to simplify adding the legends on the page. I have implemented the colored lyrics plus legends on the page using this template, so the current source code is simpler than the previous example in my sandbox. I thought there were some lyrics sang by Big Man, Callie, and Marie. -Random 12:52, 11 April 2023 (UTC)Reply[reply]
The trio sings the second to last line. Did I miss anything? Harimaron (talk) 13:34, 11 April 2023 (UTC)Reply[reply]
I thought Big Man had sang another line with the Squid Sisters aswell. I'll check. -Random 14:23, 11 April 2023 (UTC)Reply[reply]
