The Master from Fallout, The Borg from Star Trek

Call me crazy, but Commander Tartar's origins and motives are awfully like those of the Master from the original Fallout game. Both assume a final form produced from biomass and are obsessed with creating the ultimate life form to roam the Earth. The major differences are that you cannot negotiate with Commander Tartar nor convince him that his ultimate plan is a failure from the start…

Even before Fallout, Star Trek had the Borg, a vast collection of cybernetic organisms whose ultimate goal is "achieving perfection" by assimilating other organisms deemed worthy of adding to its gene pool. Unlike the Zerg in StarCraft, The Borg do not cull species it considers too inferior; they simply ignore them unless they ever pose a threat or are directed to attack.

Commander tartar

So this is a pure guess but, I think that in Splatoon 3 tartar is back to destroy, after the final splatfest. It is said tartar lies on a mountain, I'm not sure which mountain, but maybe the inkling we see in the trailer is agent 7 needs to bring the world of splatoon together after the final splatfest, while tartar is scheming once again, so all of the inklings and octolings have to join together to stop him once and for all. Animal Crossing Reference?

I was looking in a YouTube comments section and found out a phone in Animal Crossing called "Antique Phone" resembles Tartar. The image does seem to be broken. I do not think it's a reference though, as both the Telephone and the Animal Crossing item are vintage telephones resembling real ones. Commander Tartar's gender

Since you were all so quick to change Dedf1sh's gender after a quite obvious mistranslation on nintendo's part and are just repeating the whole Shiver story again, I suppose it's time to return the favor. I'll take this spoken-of radio silence over the tone you've chosen to discuss this in.

Tartar is an already released character. Dedf1sh is not. Community consensus is that they will remain "undefined" until the release of Side Order, which is in a little under a month.

Dedf1sh was first introduced as a character in splatoon 2's octo expansion. While she did not appear in game, she was credited as the artist for the tracks heard in the test facilities in the deepsea metro. She is referred to with "she" and looks like a girl, this confusion is clearly just because the community wants her to be relatable to them, like what happened to shiver. Anyways, I suppose you are correct in saying that there is no need to be rude over this, I guess we will just have to wait until Side order's release to confirm. As someone who doesn't care about the gender I ensure you the reason we changed the gender section to unknown for the time being is all languages suddenly using something neutral or masculine. It is noted respectively so I don't see why this is confused with a case of the community's wanting for relatability. Once Side Order is out and we have more in-game dialogue giving clarity, the section will be updated accordingly. I would like to mention that Tartar is reffered to as "it" in its character profile on the same site, and I am almost certain the character profiles and story section was released at the same time with the launch of the site Olivia (talk) 13:49, 27 January 2024 (UTC)

This is a great point, there are multiple instances of "it" versus only one instance of "he". Additionally, the Japanese version of Splatoon Base was checked by some of our editors and there are no clearly gendered terms used for Tartar there.

We can't entirely disregard the use of "he" though, so I've changed the infobox gender to "Unknown/possibly male" with a note explaining and linking to the relevant Splatoon Base pages. Driftin Soul (talk) 15:32, 27 January 2024 (UTC)

I feel like we can disregard the use of male pronouns since the original didn't use explicitly gendered pronouns and that makes it highly unlikely that the devs would tip the translators about it being male, especially considering the overall kinda poor translation of the site and it being one-off Olivia (talk) 17:04, 31 January 2024 (UTC)
