The distance unit (DU) is a unit of measurement in the Splatoon series. It is used to measure distance internally in the game.

In Splatoon and Splatoon 2, there are 50 distance units between each distance line in the test range. In Splatoon 3, there are 5 distance units between each distance line in the test range. 10 distance units in Splatoon 2 is equivalent to 1 distance unit in Splatoon 3.

The range of each main weapon, measured in DU, can be found at main weapon data.

History

The distance unit has remained consistent between Splatoon and Splatoon 2.

In Splatoon 3, the internal values are a tenth of a distance unit, so the interval between two lines in the test range is displayed as 5.0 internally in Splatoon 3, instead of 50. The Japanese Splatoon 3 wiki unofficially calls this new unit "meter", and regards the test range intervals as 5 meters apart. [1]

Example

The Bamboozler has a default range of 195.64 DU when fully charged.[2] Since each line in the Shooting Range is 50 units apart, a Bamboozler can damage Squid Bumpers in the Shooting Range up from about 4 lines away (195.64/50≈4).
