Legwear is an item of clothing worn by Inklings and Octolings. Unlike gear, legwear is entirely aesthetic, having no gameplay effect. In Splatoon, all Inklings have the same legwear, while in Splatoon 2 and Splatoon 3, legwear can be changed as a player customization option.

Splatoon

In Splatoon, legwear is not changeable. All Inklings wear black shorts with a stripe of the wearer's ink color on either side. The male Inklings' shorts are slightly longer than the females' and go down to their knees.

There are three pieces of clothing that, when worn, replace the normal legwear with unique legwear. These are the SQUID GIRL Tunic, School Uniform, and Samurai Jacket.

Splatoon 2

In Splatoon 2, legwear is available as a default customization option like hairstyle, eye color, and skin color. Various legwear options are available in addition to the shorts from the previous game, including skirts with shorts, capris, and exercise shorts for females; loose shorts with leggings, looser capris, and loose shorts reaching just below the knee for males; and leggings available for both females and males. Three of these legwear styles were added to the game in version 2.0.0, namely the leggings, loose sport shorts, and denim shorts.

Like in the first game, the School Uniform and Samurai Jacket come with unique legwear that replaces the selected legwear.

Splatoon 3

In Splatoon 3, legwear customization returns, with all legwear styles from Splatoon 2 returning; there is also at least one new legwear option, for a minimum total of nine. Like with hairstyles, any legwear option can now be selected regardless of the player's gender.
