Staaaay fresh!
— Squid Sisters, main catchphrase.

The Squid Sisters (Japanese: シオカラーズ Shiokaraazu) are an idol group in Inkopolis, consisting of Callie and Marie  (アオリ、ホタル Aori and Hotaru). They are also the hostesses for Inkopolis News, where they announce events, new maps, and other battle-related news. They also host Splatfest, through which players can receive Super Sea Snails.

Callie

Callie's color scheme is magenta and black. She has two long, pink, and black tentacles for "hair," and has one spherical and one rectangular earring. Callie wears a hat resembling Ikayaki, a Japanese fast food made out of grilled squid, on her head, and has a birthmark is on her left cheek. Callie has an edgier design in comparison to her cousin's sultry design. She is very excitable and is usually seen with a grin on her face.

Marie

Marie's color scheme is light green and white. She has a short, green, and white bob that is curled out at the ends, a style that is exclusive to her. Marie has one pyramid shaped earring and one rectangular earring, and wears a hoop shaped piece of sushi on her head. Marie's birthmark is on her right cheek. Marie is much less excitable than Callie, and usually only gives a half smile.

Trivia

  • Callie and Marie's names together sounds like the squid dish "calimari".
  • The band's name in Japanese is a portmanteau of shiokara (fermented squid stew) and the english word "colors."
  • Their given names in Japanese are derived from real-world species: "Aori-ika" or Bigfin Reef Squid, and "Hotaru-ika" or Firefly Squid.
  • Callie and Marie appear to be the second oldest inklings (assuming they are the same age), with the oldest being Cap'n Cuttlefish, however, one can assume many Inklings older than them that don't participate in Turf War are somewhere absent from the game.
  • Their dresses have dashes in them. These resemble the cuts made on squid when grilled.
  • If you go near the window where Callie and Marie are talking after 10 seconds, they will notice and face the player and wave, as pictured in the gallery below.
  • The hand movement they do during their catchphase, "Staaaay fresh!", is supposed to resemble the moving tentacles of a squid.
  • Several fans have noted that Callie and Marie resemble Bayonetta and Jeanne from the Bayonetta series. It is unknown if this was intentional.
  • Despite the name Squid Sisters, Callie and Marie are actually cousins, as revealed in a Sunken Scroll.
