Leagues Under the Ink (LUTI), also known as SPLUTI, is a competitive Splatoon league.
History
A competitive Splatoon league was initially suggested by S&F tournament organizer Scarth on November 10th, 2015.[1]
Leagues Under the Ink was formally announced on January 9th, 2016,[2] being supported by online Splatoon communities such as SquidBoards. The league's first season began on January 31st of that same year with 130 teams in three major divisions. The first season officially ended on April 9th, 2016.
The league's second season began on June 13th, 2016, featuring over 150 teams and over 1000 individual players.
The third season of the league began on October 17th, 2016.
The fourth season began on January 30th, 2017.
Format
Season 1
For Season 1, teams were split into three divisions. The SquidForce Division featured the sixteen highest ranking teams, the Inkline Division featured other ranked teams, and the Zink Division primarily consisted of newly formed teams or teams that weren't previously ranked.
During the regular season, teams played in Round Robin groups of eight with other teams in the same division. One match was played per week per team, consisting of a best-of-nine set with fixed map and mode setups. Some matches were broadcast on the Leagues Under the Ink's official Twitch channel.
Season 2
Season 2 introduced a new registration system where registration for the league was done on the official LUTI website beginning Season 2 and moving onward.
For Season 2, teams were split into five divisions. The Forge Division was the Elite Division featuring the top eight highest ranking teams, the SquidForce Division was the Top Division featuring the sixteen highest ranking teams, the Rockenberg Division was the Main Division featuring thirty two teams not part of the top sixteen or eight, lastly the Krak-On Division and the Skalop Division were the Open Divisions featuring any and all teams that did not meet the criteria for the other divisions.
The same Round Robin rules from the first season applied to the first four divisions while the Skalop Division was run with a Swiss Bracket system.
Season 3
Season 3 carried over most of the rules introduced during the second season. Registration was still made through the official LUTI website and the same five divisions from season 2 were used for the third season. Both the Forge Division and SquidForce Division consited of fourteen teams each separated into two groups of seven, the Rockenberg Division consisted of 28 teams who were also divide into groups of seven, and both the Krak-On and Skalop Divisions featured any and all other teams that did not meet the criteria for the other divisions.
Season 5
Season 5 used a similar format as before, but now has six divisions: Forge, Enperry, Rockenberg, Krak-On, Firefin, and Annaki. All divisions use a round-robin style, broken into groups of 8.
Forge has one group of 8, Enperry was divided into two groups of 8, Rockenberg three groups, while Krak-On, Firefin, and Annaki are all split into four groups of 8.
Season 1
The first season ran for seven weeks, starting on January 31st, 2016 and ending on March 21st, 2016.
After the end of the 7th week, double-elimination playoffs were held for each individual division. The playoffs for the Inkline and Zink divisions were simultaneously held on April 2nd, 2016, while the SquidForce division had their playoffs a week after on April 9th, 2016, officially ending the first season of the league.

The Zink Division was the third division for Season 1 and it was the open division of the league. Season 2
Season 2 began on June 13th, 2016 and officially ended on August 21st, 2016.
The second season was officially announced on May 28th, 2016.[7] The biggest change was be the introduction of a new division, the Forge Division, that replaced the SquidForce Division as the highest ranking division of the league.
Another change was the retirement of both the Inkline and Zink Divisions in favor of the Rockenberg and Krak-On Divisions respectively.[8] On June 10th, 2016 a 5th division, the Skalop Division, was announced.[9][10] This division worked alongside the Krak-On Division as the Open Divisions of the league.
The playoffs for all divisions were held from August 14th to August 21st, 2016. Unlike the first season, however, playoffs for season 2 were played on a single-elimination bracket as opposed to a double-elimination bracket.
