Talk:Chirpy Chips
Does anyone know what the fourth band member could be? It's definitely not an inkling (lack of "Mask", teeth?, tentacle hair?). - Jer455 (Talk) 19:22, 6 September 2015 (UTC)
- Could be tentacles towards the back out of picture though and mask could be face-painted away. Teeth not visible due to expression perhaps. Though I strongly suspect not an inkling, it's not too far from the realms of possibility. Haven't found any canon description yet. Slate Talk Contribs 20:03, 6 September 2015 (UTC)
Yeah, the fourth member always looked male to me... o.o The E-Litist (talk) 02:54, 18 August 2016 (UTC)
Members' Japanese names & meanings
The band members' Japanese names come from different types of chiptune sounds. The NES had two square wave channels, a triangle wave channel, a noise channel, and a delta pulse-code modulation channel. Shikaku (四角) means "quadrilateral"/"square"; Raian (ライアン) is part of the word トライアングル, "triangle"; Noijī (ノイジー) is "noisy"; and Paruko (パル子) sounds like "pulse-code". (Thanks to User:Ikaheishi for the Shikaku and Noijī observations on Talk:Harmony.) Gomtuu (talk) 19:46, 12 August 2022 (UTC)
Woops. Didn't notice that Gomtuu also took the initiative to bring this up here. My original message was as follows:
This was initially brought up by Gomtuu (talk) at the talk page for Harmony/Paruko but quickly evolved from there. Together, we believe to have realized the origin and meaning of each band members' original Japanese names:
- Paruko – Likely derived from "pulse-code"
- Noijī – English "noise"/"noisy"
- Raian – Possibly derived from removing syllables from the ends of of "triangle", in reference to a triangle wave
- Shikaku – From 四角 (square, quadrilateral) in reference to pulse waveform (AKA a "square wave")
Needless to say, these four—Square/Pulse, Triangle, Noise, and Pulse-Code (Modulation)—are the built-in audio outputs of the Ricoh 2A03/2A07 microprocessor that's at the heart of the Famicom and NES. Spot on for the theme of ABXY/Chirpy Chips. — Ikaheishi (talk) 19:52, 12 August 2022 (UTC)
I've since merged our two sections together. — Ikaheishi (talk) 19:57, 12 August 2022 (UTC)
Different Cover

The cover shown on the website looks different from the one from splatoon 1 Heyguys (talk) 00:06, 2 December 2022 (UTC)
- That is really strange. Especially since the one from Splatoon 1 has text that resembles "ABXY". I just checked The Art of Splatoon 2's Splatoon Throwback section and it has the same one as the "Splatoon 1" one, not the website one. The website one should be added to the gallery. - On it. -Gulliblepikmin 01:14, 2 December 2022 (UTC)
- Done it. On a side note; how do you rip images from the Splatoon Base website? -Gulliblepikmin 01:27, 2 December 2022 (UTC)
