Version 2.12.1 (Splatoon)
Version 2.12.1 is a revision to Splatoon that came into effect on 3 August 2023 at 01:00 UTC,[1] after of an unusually long server downtime for this game alongside Mario Kart 8, which were both taken down on 3 March 2023 for emergency maintenance that spanned for nearly five months, the longest downtime in the history of Nintendo online gaming. It is the latest version of Splatoon.[2]
Although this update is minor, it fixed a critical exploit known as ENLBufferPwn, a vulnerability in the common network code of several first party Nintendo games which allows attackers to take over other players' systems, leading to several malicious activities.

Trivia
- This is the first update to Splatoon in nearly 7 years; the previous update, Version 2.12.0, released on 13 September 2016.
- This is Splatoon's only update with a tertiary version number.
- This will be the game's final end-of-life bug fix as Nintendo will end online play services for the Nintendo 3DS and Wii U on 9 April 2024 at 00:00 UTC[4], presumably for the safety of other players.
- This update is the game's first update since its sequel games Splatoon 2 and Splatoon 3 released.
