The Splatana Wiper excels at interfering in fights to give allies the advantage, whether by giving enemies something else to shoot at for a moment with Torpedo, dealing extra damage with slashes, sneaking into melee-range to quickly and easily finish off distracted opponents, or popping Ultra Stamp to pick off an enemy or two, or to take the heat away from teammates.

Contrary to its appearance and name, the Splatana Wiper is not a melee weapon. Instead, its playstyle is centered around mid-range poking with its slash attacks and Torpedoes, while having the close-range one hit splat from the charged slash as a backup for opponents who get too close.

Combos

The Splatana Wiper has incredible combo potential with its Torpedo and Ultra Stamp:

  • Charged projectile & Uncharged Melee Slash (2 hit combo),
  • Torpedo direct (rolled or thrown) + a Charged Projectile (very fast 2 hit mid-range combo),
  • Torpedo direct & Uncharged Melee Slash (fast close range splat)
  • Torpedo direct+splash & Uncharged Projectile if enough splash damage hits,
  • Charged slash combos into an indirect Ultra Stamp hammer,
  • Indirect Ultra Stamp throw combos into charged slash,
  • Torpedo direct combos into Ultra Stamp indirect.

Additionally, with the Wide Slash tech, the Splatana Wiper becomes a reasonably powerful painter, able to lay down thick lines of paint and charge special easily. The only caveats are to find Wide Slash again when the counter is randomised, and to retain Wide Slash in combat by using uncharged slashes in groups of six.

Abilities the Splatana Wiper most benefits from include Ninja Squid for swimming through sightlines with less risk, Ink Saver (Sub) to help with Torpedo spam and Torpedo-slash combos, and Special Charge Up to throw out Ultra Stamps more often. It is generally worth including a little Ink Resistance Up and Quick Super Jump as well, as the benefits of even one sub of each are substantial for the Splatana Wiper.

In competitive play

First impressions of the Splatana Wiper from competitive players following the Splatoon 3 Splatfest World Premiere were mixed. For example, competitive veteran Sendou considers the weapon to be outclassed,[1] and some players such as Kyo consider the weapon to just be plain bad.[2] On the other hand, some players such as Chara finds the weapon to be situational, but fine as is and difficult to learn.[3][4] Further worsening the opinions on the Splatana Wiper were likely because of apparent nerfs to Ultra Stamp hitboxes.[5] Due to the game currently being unreleased, its true potential has yet to be seen, though some players like Arashi, a former member of Prophecy, seems to have taken a liking to the weapon and may push it forward in the future.[6]
