Respawn points are features that are present in all the Stages in Splatoon. In multiplayer modes, such as Turf War and Splat Zones, there are two respawn points, one for each team. In Octo Valley, respawn points appear as checkpoints, appearing throughout almost every stage.

Appearance

Respawn points appear to be metallic devices with a flat surface on top. These surfaces are colored to match each team's ink color.

Online Battles

When a match begins, all players on a team appear on their designated respawn point in squid form. In a short pre-game sequence, players turn into Inklings and shake off remaining ink. When an Inkling is splattered  in combat, they will reappear on a respawn point after a short period of time, where they are able to continue playing.

The respawn point is also a safe space for a team member that belongs to that side; the area is protected by an invincible wall which can only be seen when a player from another team tries to attack it. This means players can kill someone from another team without it being possible for them to be hit if their base is being attacked. Inklings on their respawn base are completely invincible themselves, as can be proven with an Inkstrike or Killer Wail. All of these factors prevent spawn camping.

Respawn points can also be Super Jumped to at any time, giving players a way to escape a dangerous situation if no teammates or Squid Beakons are available.

On top of that, the checkpoint acts as an inked surface, allowing players to swim in it for healing and refilling their Ink Tank.

Octo Valley

In Octo Valley, checkpoints (respawn points) allow the player to respawn at them whenever they die. This, however is only allowed at least three times during a single stage, as made noted by the "Lives" meter in the top left corner of the screen. Although, if the meter is missing at least one section, one section can be refilled every time the player reaches a checkpoint. They do not appear in boss battles (with the exception of the first one), except for the final boss.
