Fish scales are a currency in Splatoon 3. They are obtained from damaging the King Salmonid in Salmon Run Next Wave.

Earning

Fish scales can only be obtained from reaching an Xtrawave in Salmon Run Next Wave by damaging the King Salmonid. If the Xtrawave ends in failure each player is guaranteed to earn at least 2 scales, with an additional scale for every 12.5% (1/8) of damage done to the Cohozuna's health bar. If the players manage to defeat the King Salmonid, they instead earn scales based on how much time was left.[1]

  • 1-10 seconds remaining grants each player 10 scales.
  • 11-20 seconds remaining grants each player 11 scales.
  • 21-30 seconds remaining grants each player 12 scales.
  • 31+ seconds remaining grants each player 13 scales.

Fish scales have 3 rarities consisting of Bronze, Silver, and Gold. The quality of scales gained is determined by the hazard level of the King Salmonid fought, with higher hazard levels having higher chances of giving silver and gold scales.[2] Regardless of contribution, each player receives the same number and quality of scales.

Fish scales can be exchanged for Splashtag banner designs or items like various Boss Salmonid statues and stickers for the locker room. They can also be exchanged for different colored Grizzco Industries-approved alternate work outfits.

By default, only a few select items are available, and spending scales unlocks more items from the Grizzco shop:

  • After spending at least 100 bronze and 10 silver scales, more offers are unlocked, especially two more work suits.
  • After spending at least 350 bronze, 40 silver, and 4 gold scales, all items are available for purchase.[3]

More rewards may be added in future seasons.

Trivia

  • The shop is called 'Uroko' in the files of Splatoon 3, which is the Japanese translation of fish scales.
