you are welcome! Flame(Talk) 12:56, 22 April 2020 (UTC)Reply[reply]
just to let you know: if you move a file from one name to the other, instead of blanking the page, please use the tag {{delete}}. Thanks! (otherwise, good job on uploads) Trig - 13:12, 29 April 2020 (UTC)Reply[reply]
Sure thing, sorry about that. And thank you. Skua (talk) 05:52, 30 April 2020 (UTC)Reply[reply]

Edit summaries

Hey, I just have one thing to ask you. Can you start putting a summary of your changes in the summary box? For example Added [[Template:Delete]]. This helps in many ways, for example people browsing a page's history will be able to find a change they are looking for way faster, as they can just look at the summary. Thanks, > Fumple (-> talk) 09:18, 3 May 2020 (UTC)Reply[reply]

Will do, sorry about that. Just didn't think most of the edits were significant enough for a summary. Skua (talk) 09:34, 3 May 2020 (UTC)Reply[reply]

Improving the wiki

Hey, I noticed you were going to great efforts to clean up various things like duplicate files and categorization. I truly appreciate your efforts. Thank you! 😁 Heddy (talk) 14:39, 9 May 2020 (UTC)Reply[reply]

No problem, thank you! Skua (talk) 15:15, 9 May 2020 (UTC)Reply[reply]

Hmm, why did you remove the character categories and replace them with broad ones like "Splatoon 2"? Categories should be as specific as possible. Heddy (talk) 04:46, 10 May 2020 (UTC)Reply[reply]

Almost all of the characters don't have their own category so it didn't make sense for the ones who did. I think at least for now that images of specific things like characters are better off as galleries than categories. Skua (talk)
I see what you're saying, that those topics are too specific at the present time. If that's the situation, then we should create a slightly broader category that is not too specific. Like "Category:Screenshots of characters in Splatoon 2". This would be better than placing them in a high-level category like "Category:Splatoon 2", which makes it more difficult for people to find files grouped by kind, type, subject, or quality (which is the purpose of the category structure). Heddy (talk) 23:39, 10 May 2020 (UTC)Reply[reply]
Of course, I only intended for those to be there temporarily for replacing the previous category. I understand categories but having ones that are too specific means it's likely that every file could apply to several categories and it'd be impossible to categorise all of them perfectly. Skua (talk) 05:47, 11 May 2020 (UTC)Reply[reply]
Cool, thanks again. Heddy (talk) 13:22, 11 May 2020 (UTC)Reply[reply]

On a related to images note, do you happen to use any optimizers when uploading new versions of images? If not, would you be willing to perhaps learn one?

I have a section on my userpage about what they are, but could also go into more conversational detail if you'd like. Trig - 03:55, 17 May 2020 (UTC)Reply[reply]

Yeah, I use PngOptimizer. I'd like to see what PNGMonster/Monstrous is like but can't get it to work. Skua (talk) 05:14, 17 May 2020 (UTC)Reply[reply]
If that is not providing success, PNGgauntlet appears to be something successful for PNGs only, but I have not had experience with it so you would probably want to test it out before actually implementing it. Trig - 14:21, 17 May 2020 (UTC)Reply[reply]
Just tried it and it's about the same, thank you though. Skua (talk) 08:27, 18 May 2020 (UTC)Reply[reply]

RE: Splatoon 2 Octotrooper variant.png

Hi, I noticed you uploaded a file from Tumblr that you marked as low quality. For Tumblr, there is a way to get larger files, but it takes a lot of steps. I grabbed the slightly better image that was available and cropped and uploaded it. The steps are:

  1. Create a tumblr blog.
  2. Find posts you want images for and press the reblog button on each of those posts.
  3. Go to the tumblr settings page and press the "export [blog name]" button to export your blog.
  4. Wait (several hours?) for the download button to appear, and then download the exported blog. The downloaded images will be in the original size.

I hope this information is useful to you! Heddy (talk) 02:02, 20 May 2020 (UTC)Reply[reply]

That will be really useful, thank you! I thought that was impossible after the url trick was removed a while back. Skua (talk) 05:02, 20 May 2020 (UTC)Reply[reply]

Thank you!

Thank you for your hard work at cataloging everything! You've been helping us a lot and I wanted to appreciate your efforts. Keep it up! You are welcome to join us on Discord where we usually discuss wiki-related stuff for convenience. If you want the patrolling tools, I'd gladly nominate you for patroller rights. ShaharSig2.pngShaharSigtalk2.png 21:06, 27 July 2020 (UTC)Reply[reply]

Thank you so much! I appreciate it. I'm also in the Discord but I haven't really been able to give input on anything yet. Skua (talk) 07:52, 29 July 2020 (UTC)Reply[reply]

Rights nomination

Squidmaster400 nominated you for patroller rights. It doesn't look like they asked you first. Can you confirm if you want those rights? From a previous comment, it looked like you were not interested. Heddy (talk) 20:24, 8 December 2020 (UTC)Reply[reply]

Can you crop-out the white background from the image of S3's 3D english logo? Sincerely, P.J. GT(talk)SSBU Inkling Boy.png 16:22, 24 May 2022 (UTC)Reply[reply]

Here is proof of the white background
Image with background Example of no background
S3 logo.png Splatoon2 Logo.png

@P.J. GT There is always a transparent-background version in press kits. Simply wait, and PidgiWiki or news articles will have the transparent-background logo. Trying to manually remove the white background will produce imperfect results. Heddy (talk) 18:22, 24 May 2022 (UTC)Reply[reply]

Splatoon 3 Inkling & Octoling Render

Hi,

I just wanted to ask about exactly where on the JP you were able to find this render? I tried looking but I couldn't find it anywhere. --Mjmannella (talk) 17:03, 15 August 2022 (UTC)Reply[reply]

It's like half way down the page in the background, but I cropped out the other characters. Skua (talk) 05:50, 16 August 2022 (UTC)Reply[reply]

Halt!

You'll probably want to use Category:The Art of Splatoon 3 source files instead. It's where files that use source=The Art of Splatoon (number) go to. Trig - 05:09, 17 February 2023 (UTC)Reply[reply]

Sure thing, but it'd be both right? "source files" for the source type, and "scans" for the image/media type. Skua (talk) 01:52, 18 February 2023 (UTC)Reply[reply]

Off the Hook 2D art

I get that the new files do not match the background version of the artwork in terms of colors, but it would be appreciated if you read the revision notes. The only alternative image I found with the original colors has the legs cropped out. Anemoia Anemoia Sig.png [Talk!] 23:56, 12 February 2024 (UTC)Reply[reply]

I did read them, but just because the original source is potentially lost doesn't mean the art is unofficial. Most content on PidgiWiki is from official websites and press kits. The original uploader also uploaded art of other characters in high resolution that are 100% matches to the background versions so they're definitely official. Skua (talk) 05:53, 13 February 2024 (UTC)Reply[reply]
The issue wasn't that it was unofficial but that it might have been edited. Anemoia Anemoia Sig.png [Talk!] 12:21, 13 February 2024 (UTC)Reply[reply]
If it was edited that would make it unofficial. But all the artworks are exact matches so they couldn't have been edited. Skua (talk) 01:15, 14 February 2024 (UTC)Reply[reply]
While the image does look genuine and unaltered PidgiWiki is not considered a credible source; please locate an alternative source for the specific image. Yoshifan52 (talk) 00:21, 16 February 2024 (UTC)Reply[reply]
I'm afraid Fandom wikis are also not considered credible sources for images. Yoshifan52 (talk) 04:57, 16 February 2024 (UTC)Reply[reply]
That's why I also put the press kit. I found this article which has some of the images from it but I figured the Fandom link would be better proof as it seemingly has all the images. The press kit is also mentioned at the bottom of this press release but Nintendo's press site is password protected. Even if the password was public I'm not sure if the press kit is even available anymore, so the Fandom uploads could be the only proof of all the images. Skua (talk) 06:54, 16 February 2024 (UTC)Reply[reply]
Bonjour. Fandom is not an acceptable source under any circumstance, really. They intentionally obfuscate file pages, hiding what their source or otherwise lack of might be, which both prevents that file being appropriately fair use and also leads to the possibility of unofficial, edited, doctored, or quality degredated images being used. Furthermore, linking to our one main competitor for anything just hurts us in the long run if we send traffic their way. PidgiWiki has a similar problem with no integrity on verifying the sources they are acquiring from and have had loads of issues with fake and upscaled materials being uploaded. Neither of these should be relied upon for those reasons. I have Nintendo press kit access and can verify any file at any time—just ask. YoshiFan52 has also been given all of the files that I have downloaded from said site both to help upload them but also to verify with what we already have. Trig - 21:52, 14 March 2024 (UTC)Reply[reply]
I understand, but the fact of the matter is these particular press kit files are seemingly only on Pidgi/Fandom therefore that's what I have to put the source as. How do you suggest press kit files be sourced in file descriptions in future? I found some more press kit images in this gallery that need to be uploaded here. Skua (talk) 08:23, 15 March 2024 (UTC)Reply[reply]
We have many files to source already (nearly 9k) so we shouldn't upload more with questionable sources. As Trig said, they have press kits, so you can simply ask. Anemoia Anemoia Sig.png [Talk!] 12:22, 15 March 2024 (UTC)Reply[reply]

Video screenshot uploads

Hey Skua, when uploading screenshots of videos please use the "video screenshot" type within the file template even if the screenshot contents could fall into another image type; I saw you uploaded a bunch of screenshots listed as renders instead. Ideally we would wait until clear uploads of those characters' renders become available rather than list the screenshots as renders. The exception to this rule is when video screenshots are being used temporarily for wiki templates until clearer versions become available. Yoshifan52 (talk) 00:25, 16 February 2024 (UTC)Reply[reply]

I understand, but sometimes official renders can take years to release or even never. A lot of the Salmon Run renders for example are still like this. If these and other cropped renders are to be updated then maybe a new category and gallery section could be made for placeholder renders? Skua (talk) 03:50, 16 February 2024 (UTC)Reply[reply]
The issue at hand is the fact the source is screenshotting official videos, which inherently leads to some loss of quality due to the methods required to obtain them, which should be noted above all else. Youtube/Twitter uploads like this have a capped quality available to begin with that works as a barrier against us no matter how pristine our rips are. The Salmonid renders you've linked are from miscellaneous official art sources so it's OK to list them as renders first and foremost even if their quality isn't perfect at this time; video screenshots are closer to compromises made by editors in lieu of official image releases. Yoshifan52 (talk) 05:03, 16 February 2024 (UTC)Reply[reply]
What about page scans? This Griller art is from a page scan and it's distorted compared to the digital release. However, this art of a Steelhead from a video screenshot is better quality and higher resolution than both. The Inkling renders with purple backgrounds in this category are also screenshots with decent quality. Why not just leave them all categorised as renders but add the ImproveQuality template like this instead? Skua (talk) 08:13, 16 February 2024 (UTC)Reply[reply]
Chiming in here, both file types should be used simultaneously of videoscreenshot and render, but they should be used sparingly and generally when no alternative exists. Trig - 21:54, 14 March 2024 (UTC)Reply[reply]
