Lookin' Fresh is a song performed by DJ Lee Fish.

Description

Lookin' Fresh is an electronic composition, with many influences from old-school hip hop. The song has an emphasis on the Inkling vocals, which appear to be rapping, along with a section that has multiple Inklings chanting. In Splatoon, four different versions play in each of the Booyah Base shops, each remix matching the personalities of the shopkeepers. In Squid Beatz, selecting Lookin' Fresh plays the version heard in Shrimp Kicks, implying that version to be the original. The Shrimp Kicks version has high bass and emphasizes percussion, because Crusty Sean's gear corresponds to the lower part of the body. Furthermore, the heavy beat gives it a bouncy sound, reflecting his outgoing personality. In Splatoon 2, Lookin' Fresh can be heard at the Crust Bucket, a reference to Sean's former store.

Remixes and covers

Lookin' Fresh (Cooler Heads)

The version heard in Cooler Heads has louder treble, i.e. vocals, and minimal percussion, giving it a weaker sound in that respect. This is a reflection of Annie's shy, detached personality, as well as the fact that she sells gear for the top part of the buyer's body, hence the emphasis on the treble.

Lookin' Fresh (Jelly Fresh)

The version heard in Jelly Fresh is faded out except for the melody, the "center", because Jelonzo's gear goes on the middle part of the body. It also has many bubbly sound effects in the background, showing his bubbly and ecstatic personality as well as referencing his gelatinous species.

Lookin' Fresh (Ammo Knights)

The version heard in Ammo Knights is more distant, showing Sheldon's separation from the others as a weapons dealer. It also has static and other sounds reminiscent of a military radio, as a reference to his obsession with the military.

Other Versions

Lookin Fresh (Splatune)

The version included in Splatune is a medley of all 4 versions of Lookin' Fresh, with each version being separated by the same sound effect as if one was switching through the shops in Booyah Base with the L and R buttons. It begins with the Cooler Heads version, before switching to the Jelly Fresh version at the 43 second mark. At the 1:05 mark, it switches to the Ammo Knights version, and switches for the final time at the 1:20 mark, where the regular Shrimp Kicks version plays for the rest of the track (which ends at 2:15). Note how each version does not get an equal amount of time, and that the Shrimp Kicks version plays at the end, and has the longest duration of all versions, possibly further confirmation that it is the original version.

Samples and interpolations

Main article: New You

While DJ Lee Fish's songs don't have any significant presence in Splatoon 2, New You by DJ Real Sole replaces Lookin' Fresh as the shop keeper theme and heavily samples Lookin' Fresh.
