A Launchpad.
Launchpad ahoy!

Launchpads are a mechanic in Octo Valley, Octo Canyon, The Bunker Games, and Octo Expansion.

Description

Launchpads appear as flat circles of swirling ink on horizontal and vertical surfaces and launch the player from one platform to another, similar to Super Jumping. This can be done by pressing ZL. Launchpads are the most common form of transportation between platforms, followed by Inkrails. While Inkrails require manual traversal on the player's part, launchpads are automatic and must only be activated to use.

Appearances

Launchpads appear in every Octo Valley mission, including boss battles. They are also seen in the fifth section of Octo Valley, where a launchpad will take the player to the final boss kettle. A Launchpad also appears at the end of the Tutorial.

Launchpads are frequently present in Octo Canyon (mode) missions and are also used to travel between sectors in Octo Canyon. They have been also been used in a Shifty Station layout, The Bunker Games.

Trivia

  • Using a launchpad displays the same animation as Super Jumping.
    • You are also able to use a Splashdown after using a launchpad like you can when Super Jumping.
  • In Octo Valley, there are small arrows pointing to the launchpads once they appear. Once the player is near it, a prompt telling them to press ZL will appear above it. This is not the case in Octo Canyon.
