Gameplay videos for Octo Expansion and Return of the Mammalians levels?

I noticed that Splatoon 1 Octo Valley stages have gameplay footage and I was wondering if it should be added to the Octo Expansion and Return of the Mammalians stages too. I wondered that too. I asked about it, and Anemoia said,"This might be more suited for Strategy Wiki (walkthroughs are currently being ported there). Unless you mean something completely different." I replied,"Just wondering because some of the Splatoon 1 stages have gameplay videos." They then said,"If you'd like you can help by moving those to the aforementioned wiki. Here on Trig's page is a quick explanation of how it works. You can cut walkthroughs from Inkipedia pages and paste them on the appropriate Strategy pages. If the Inkipedia pages only have gameplay videos and no written walkthroughs, well... you can write them yourself if you feel like it." Stay Fresh! I hope so. I would make them, but I lack an online membership. Just so you are aware, Inkipedia says that StrategyWiki has pages for Return Of The Mammilians, but they actually don't. The only two that are there were made by me lol. (There is a third incomplete one, that me and Trig worked on.) Just so yknow, you would have a lot of work to do if you wanna complete it. Btw, if you wanna add weapon demonstrations,(assuming you can access the lobby) You should probably ask whoever is in charge of weapon demonstrations how to do one, like what to show off, because, if you've seen the S1 and S2 ones, you know that there are a list of things they must show off in a specific order. (Like how in S2, they would view the weapon 360, then shoot in front of them until they have no more ink, then attack the dummy etc.) Now fr, Stay Fresh! How did the datamines for Drizzle Season 2023 got never taken down?

I didn't want to datamine, but the users added a bit of datamines but never got taken any action. Why did this never happen? Is it good to add content hours before it releases? KPOfficial26 (talk) 01:26, 30 November 2023 (UTC)

Simply put, not everything manages to get caught. We have editors who try to keep an eye out but sometimes things still slip through the gaps. In future, if you notice leaked content being documented you are more than welcome to revert and/or add deletion notices as necessary, as well as contact the users breaking policy to inform or remind them of said policy. Skin is glitched to default Timeless

Big Run Bug

Splatfest event categories

I noticed a lot of Splatfest event pages were uncategorized so I was moving a bunch of them to Category:Splatfest events when another user (thanks Randomnamehere :D) brought up a good point - should they instead be categorized under the subcategories Category:Splatoon Splatfest events, Category:Splatoon 2 Splatfest events, and Category:Splatoon 3 Splatfest events? This is how Category:Splatfest Top 100 listings organizes its articles which I agree makes more sense rather than throwing them all onto the same category page. Not sure if mods have access to mass-editing tools to automatically tag them which might be easier than doing it manually. Lucs100 (talk) 16:50, 4 December 2023 (UTC)

I also think it makes more sense to use the subcategories. I have also noticed that some Splatfest pages are in both Category:Splatfest events and the subcategory. I think this is unnecessary, they should be removed from Category:Splatfest events, since they are already in the subcategory.  GX_64 (talk)  01:02, 5 December 2023 (UTC)

A lot of pages are in the main categories rather than the respective sub categories. But, that's not how they're supposed to be sorted as far as i'm aware. -Random 15:13, 5 December 2023 (UTC)

Regarding School Cardigan's gender (referred gender)

Is it safe to simply use 'they/them' pronouns for School Cardigan? Or should we use 'he/him' or 'she/her'? How should the team be referred to?

Many music files have errors

about the music files , about half of them come up with errors. Any guidelines on how I might be able to fix this? Thx Sol (talk) 17:36, 10 December 2023 (UTC)

I noticed in the source some of the files are mp3s instead of OGG - would it be feasible to convert all the OGGs to Mp3s? I don't mind doing it if anyone knows how I can change the files over, im happy to re-record etc. I mean, a lot of people use Apple devices, so it might be a beneficial change Sol (talk) 17:43, 10 December 2023 (UTC)

I think there was talk of shortening all music files and turning them to .mp3 format for copyright reasons. I can look into this if you're interested. I really hope we don't have to shorten them, cuz this is how I listen to Sploon music at school, cuz SoundCloud is blocked. (Can't use YouTube) I don't know why we have to shorten them, Nintendo hasn't seemed to care, but Nintendo can be L sometimes and take it down. Open the source code and scroll through and you can see the file names they're pretty obvious. So you can go to that page and either replace the file there or you can edit the source code and make a new file page and then link that in there , and delete the old page. Second one is more organised but if u need just replace on the page Sol (talk) 17:21, 11 December 2023 (UTC)

You know when Grizz says, "Fellow employees, we appreciate your valued feedback. However, it will not be implemented at this time."? And then that funny american music starts? Yeah, that's nowhere in the music area! Can someone try and find a version without Grizz talking, the rocket person talking, or the rocket blasting away? Really will come in handy! Gear template overhaul proposal

• Right now, Template:GearAbilityAndBrandInfo in each gear page is a paragraph, which to some can be hard to read. I'd like to split it into some bullet points.
  • Here's a Genshin Impact armor set description and its fanmade simplified description, for comparison.
• I suggest merging info in Template:GearIntroText (where to get, price, can be ordered, etc.) to GearAbilityAndBrandInfo. Might as well rename the latter if that happens.

Double quotes versus single quotes

Many Etymology sections feature something like this: "Cephaloparade is a portmanteau of 'cephalopod', the class of animals including squids and octopuses, and 'parade'" (single quotes are used in this example). I've noticed inconsistency on whether double quotes or single quotes are used, and I don't know if there is an accepted standard we should use, and, if not, which of these should be used to keep pages looking neat and consistent. I did some looking into it, and double quotes are technically more standard in formal American English (which we generally try to adhere to as per the manual of style). I don't think it's of urgent concern to have consistency across all pages (especially since that would be a huge undertaking) but as long as it's consistent within individual pages I think that's the most important thing! Pikan glitching

Editor’s Note in Competitive Weapon Pages

Hello! I’ve had this nagging issue with the editor’s note in the “Gear Abilities” section of most competitive weapon pages. The premise of the note just feels kind of informal and redundant in a way, as one can probably assume that the gear abilities are being provided for a competitive standpoint.

I’ll add what is says here (with a bonus sentence that irks me):

”This is a guide to gear abilities in relation to the weapon. Strategy, synergy, viability, and purpose may be written here. Editor note: This guide is for all abilities, to avoid conflict and to be more useful for everyone. Please do not remove any ability that was added. You may add reasoning for why other abilities are more strategically desirable. If an opinion is questionable, discuss its content on the talk page. If you believe that an ability is particularly good, it would be best if you added a citation to support your opinion. Citations to Top 500 or tournament winning players are best.”

I see this repetitively (and admittedly have deleted it a few times), but I want to consult before fully removing it. Would it be a bad idea to completely remove this portion. I don't see what's wrong with it? It's basically just saying to not go removing other editors' contributions without discussion simply because you disagree with them, which is certainly an important thing to keep in mind for the Competitive namespace since it's quite heavily opinion-based to start with. It even provides an idea for how editors can be slightly more objective by citing performance-based sources. Strongly in favor of keeping it, personally. I think that it is implied to not edit other people’s edits in a harassing manner. This isn’t a manual on how to edit, which would be expected on a guide but not a formal page. It says “you” many times, which was my main issue. All of the things addressed seem like common sense, which is what I was getting at.

It's not about harassment, though? It's establishing that the Competitive namespace is very different and overall less objective and factual than the wiki mainspace, meaning that contributions need to be evaluated by different criteria. Furthermore, appealing to 'common sense' is something that sounds good in theory, but doesn't always work in practice. For experienced editors many of these things may be obvious, it's true, but not everyone who wants to contribute is an experienced editor.

As far as the use of 'you'... it's fine? This is a note that's only visible in the source editor; it doesn't need to stand up to the same conventions as actual page content, as anyone who isn't editing will never see it. Driftin Soul (talk) 22:42, 10 January 2024 (UTC)

Favicon for Wikipedia
