Callie: Hold on to your tentacles... Marie: It's Inkopolis News time!
In Splatoon, Inkopolis News is hosted by the Squid Sisters, Callie and Marie. Each time players start Splatoon and every four hours thereafter, Inkopolis News is shown.
In Splatoon 2, Inkopolis News is hosted by Off The Hook, Pearl and Marina. Each time players start Splatoon 2 Inkopolis News is shown. Unlike the first game, Inkopolis News will only be shown again in a single play session if there are new Salmon Run, DLC, or Splatfest announcements.
If a player is occupied when Inkopolis News should be shown, it will appear once they finish that activity. For example, if someone is playing Turf War when news is scheduled to appear, it will be shown once they complete their current match.
Callie: Let's unveil the current regular battle stages! Marie: All right!

Salmon Run News
In Splatoon 2, when Salmon Run is open, Pearl and Marina will let the players know, and the monitor in the background will show the current bonus gear available to workers.
The hosts can be seen talking in their respective studios in both Inkopolis Plaza (second floor) and Inkopolis Square (far right near tower). If a player looks at them for a certain period of time, they will acknowledge the player before returning to their discussion.
In Splatoon, Callie and Marie will both smile and wave.
In Splatoon 2, if you are an inkling, Pearl will make a brief disturbed face before smiling, and Marina will nervously smile and wave. If you are an octoling, Pearl and Marina will notice you as "Agent 8" and gesture to you with a supportive pose.
Trivia
In Splatoon, every four hours a sign saying, 'News update! Let's go to Callie and Marie live in the studio' will pop up and the player will have to watch Inkopolis News. If they are doing a multiplayer battle, it will pop up after a match. If the player is in either Octo Valley or playing in the Battle Dojo, when they exit it they will see the sign. The announcements may come less often in Splatoon 2, but they work the same.
After defeating DJ Octavio for the first time in either game, a special Inkopolis News episode will be seen, showing the return of the Great Zapfish. After this, the game's credits will be seen. In Splatoon, the plaza will shift to nighttime for this announcement.
