Protagonists

Blue Team

A group of supposedly idiotic Inklings who are the main protagonists of the manga. They don a blue ink color. This team consists of four members:

Goggles is quite naïve. In fact, it is mentioned in issue 4 that Goggles mixes toothpaste and wasabi. He sometimes never listens to anyone else except for Knit Cap, showing that she and Goggles have a very special bond.
The following topic from the squid profiles reads about Goggles: "He can't hear his alarm clock very well, so he always leaves his house tired and disorientated. He also has a bad sleeping posture." It must mean that Goggles can't hear well, which is why he sometimes ignores people.
Whilst acting as a big sister to the team despite them being the same age, Headphones is level-headed, except when Goggles is doing his usual idiotic things.
Glasses can be a very anxious squid, but tries to hide it as best as he can. He tries to flaunt his knowledge as much as he can, but sometimes he notices nobody is listening to him, which upsets him.

Knit Cap seems to enjoy Goggles' actions. Though she and her big smile show her innocence, Knit Cap is pretty much always happy in the face of danger.

~Item/Ability Information~

Item/Ability: Idiotic Syncnication Power (アホシソクロパワー Aho Shisokuro Pawā)

This ability can only be used by Goggles and Glasses. While throwing insults at each other, Goggles and Glasses are perfectly in sync.

Yellow-Green/Lime Team

  • Rider, appearing in issues 1, 2, and 6.
  • Uniform-Chan (Blazer Chan)[2]
  • Bamboo-Chan[2]
  • Stealth-Kun[2]

~Item/Ability Information~

Item/Ability: Currently unknown, most likely the Triple Inkstrike (三連トルネード San-Ren Torunēdo) attack.

While it is a Special Weapon chain, it can be used by three Lime Team members (Uniform, Bamboo, and Stealth were seen doing so in the first issue).

  • The Squid Sisters, Callie and Marie. They are the commentators for the battles.
  • Judd
  • Other Inklings
  • Jellyfish
  • Sheldon, who made a non-speaking cameo in issue 3.
  • Annie and Moe, who both managed to make a cameo appearence in issue 3.
  • Jelonzo, who appeared in issue 3. Unlike Sheldon, Annie, or Moe, he made a major appearence rather than a cameo.

Antagonists

S4

An S+ group, being considered "god-like".

    • An unnamed Full Moon Glasses Inkling.
    • An unnamed Designer Headphones Inkling.
    • An unnamed Sun Visor Inkling.
  • Purple Team
    • Skull-Kun

Trivia

  • Most squids are named by their headgear, with Kun or Chan at the end of their name.
    • Some of these squids, like Rider, are named after their clothing and other squids, like Cleat-Chan, are named after their shoes.
  • As shown in a CoroCoro video about Splatoon Volume 1, Sankichi drew the mascot, Goggles, in squid ink.
