The official social media coverage for the Splatoon series' game update announcements, often through the Squid Research Lab channels, has on occasion featured erroneous information, mistranslations, typos and/or mistakenly revealed new information ahead of schedule (leaks). This page documents these mistakes.

Errors

Erroneous mistakes includes instances of false information in posts as well as posts that have since been edited or deleted then replaced, leaving the previous version of the post's canonicity ambiguous.

  • On 13 February 2023 the @SplatoonNA Twitter account posted a Tweet in which the languages Inklings and Octolings speak were referred to as "Inkling" and "Octoling".[1] This Tweet alongside the following Tweet within the same thread[2] were deleted and then subsequently replaced.[3][4]
  • On 17 November 2023 the @SplatoonNA Twitter account mistakenly listed Splattercolor Screen as the Snipewriter 5B's sub weapon in a Tweet revealing the kit.[5] This is incorrect, due to the Snipewriter 5B not having Splattercolor Screen, and the fact that Splattercolor Screen is not a sub weapon, rather a special weapon. The Tweet was deleted shortly, and a corrected Tweet was later issued.[6]
  • On 29 November 2023 the @SplatoonNA Twitter account published a Tweet regarding FrostyFest promotional gear, then deleted it shortly after seemingly due to its phrasing being misleading.[7] A corrected Tweet was later issued.[8]
  • On 16 February 2024 the @SplatoonNA Twitter account posted a Tweet showcasing new gear being added to Salmon Run: Next Wave's store, but accidentally posted both the English and Japanese image of the menu. This tweet was deleted shortly, and a corrected Tweet was later issued.[9]
  • On 19 February 2024 the @SplatoonNA Twitter account posted a Tweet erroneously listing the Nautilus 79's special weapon as the Splashdown rather than the Triple Splashdown.[10]
  • On 19 February 2024 the @SplatoonNA Twitter account mistakenly referred to the Glooga Dualies Deco's special weapon as the Inkzooka instead of the Trizooka in its reveal Tweet.[11]
  • On 28 February 2024 the @SplatoonNA Twitter account posted a video showcasing the Catalog for Fresh Season 2024. When the short clip that shows The Square Show-Off emote plays, the title erroneously changes to "The Spuare Show-Off".[12]
  • On 14 March 2024 the @SplatoonNA Twitter account posted about the then upcoming Full Stream Ahead Challenge. in the tweet, they mistakenly refer to the Challenge as "The 'Full Steam Ahead' Monthly Challenge". This Challenge was spelt incorrectly, and is also not a Monthly Challenge. Additionally, they also mistakenly referred to Inklings as "inkings".[13]
  • On 21 May 2024 the @SplatoonNA Twitter account posted a Tweet erroneously listing the Recycled Brella 24 Mk II's special weapon as the Splashdown rather than the Triple Splashdown.[14]
  • On 22 May 2024 the @SplatoonNA Twitter account posted a Tweet listing the Charcoal Decavitator's sub weapon as the "Splash Shield". It is a mistranslation of Splash Wall, using the directly translated Japanese name instead of the localized version.[15] The Tweet was taken down the next day, and a corrected Tweet was later issued.[16]
  • On 23 May 2024 the @SplatoonNA Twitter account posted a Tweet mistakenly listing the Custom Hydra Splatling's sub weapon as Point Sensor, instead of Ink Mine.[17] The Tweet was deleted shortly, and a corrected Tweet was later issued.

Leaks

Leaking refers to disclosing upcoming or other thus unrevealed information prior to their official announcements.

  • On 16 August 2023 the @SplatoonNA Twitter account posted a Tweet containing erroneous Challenge mode scheduling information that revealed the Modded Rainmaker Test-Fire a day before its formal reveal.[18] The Tweet was deleted shortly after.
  • On 18 March 2024 the official Nintendo of America YouTube channel published a video showcasing Off the Hook's post-Halftime Splatfest song We're So Back rather than their pre-Halftime Splatfest song, Color Pulse (2024).[19] Within a few hours, the video was removed.
