Custom Hydra Splatling

From Inkipedia, the Splatoon wiki

The Custom Hydra Splatling is a main weapon in the Splatoon series. It is a Hydra Splatling with Custom branding and a different loadout.

The Hydra Splatling must be charged up to fire a continuous spray of ink, like all splatlings. It distinguishes itself from the others by having the longest range and slowest charge time. It is the only splatling capable of splatting opponents with three ink bullets, as it has an exclusive high-damage feature that activates when the weapon is fully charged. The Hydra Splatling's mobility is low, so speed is impaired when it is equipped, even when not attacking with the weapon.

Appearance

The Custom Hydra Splatling is nearly identical in appearance to the Hydra Splatling. The only two differences between the two is that the Custom Hydra Splatling has a sticker bearing the Custom logo on the side of the tank, and, in Splatoon 3, the addition of the hose that connects the tank to the weapon now being light blue instead of yellow.

The Custom Hydra Splatling was released on 16 January 2016 at 02:00 UTC.[1][2] It was initially said to be the final weapon to be released before the release of Sheldon's Picks.[3][4] It comes as a set with Sprinklers and the Bubbler.

Data

  • The Custom Hydra Splatling is a heavyweight weapon.
  • A full charge consumes 35% of the ink tank capacity.
    • This allows players to fully charge 2 times before needing to refill the ink tank.
    • This stat can be changed with Ink Saver (Main).
  • The Custom Hydra Splatling cannot store its charge.
  • The Custom Hydra Splatling is not rechargeable while firing.
  • When charging the weapon, it will take 108 frames in order to charge its first ring and 135 frames in total for a full charge.
  • With a single ring charged, it will have a firing duration of 108 frames. With a full charge, it will have a firing duration of 216 frames.
  • When charging with an empty tank, the charge time is multiplied by 3.
  • When firing, it shoots a bullet every 4 frames.
  • When firing, the player's movement speed is set to 0.6 units per frame.
    • When charging, the player's movement speed is set to 0.4 units per frame.
  • After firing, there is a 40 frame cooldown before the ink tank starts refilling.
  • Each shot has a base damage of 28.
  • At full charge, each shot has a base damage of 35.
  • Shots travel straight for 8 frames. After that, they may lose damage.
  • Shots have a radius of 2 units.
  • The angle its shots can deviate while on the ground is 3 degrees.
  • The angle its shots can deviate while in the air is 6 degrees.
  • The outer reticle immediately expands after jumping. The outer reticle will finish shrinking after 45 frames.
  • The chance to shoot towards the outer reticle instead of the inner reticle increases by 2% per shot, and maximizes at a 30% chance to shoot towards the outer reticle.
    • This means that it takes 15 shots to reach minimum accuracy.
  • When jumping, the chance to shoot towards the outer reticle instead of the inner reticle is immediately set to 30%.
  • Accuracy starts recovering 4 frames after the player stops shooting.
  • Within the first charge ring, initial shot velocity scales from 10.5 to 24 units per frame. Within the second charge ring, initial shot velocity is always 24 units per frame. Shots travel straight at the initial velocity for 8 frames. At maximum charge, shots travel straight for 192 distance units.
  • Ink droplets occur every 235 units.
  • The frequency at which ink drips from a shot occurs at a rate of 1 droplets per shot.
  • There are a total of 8 different droplet patterns that can be created while firing this weapon.
  • Droplets that occur within 11 units of the player have a radius of 19.2 units.
  • Droplets that occur when they travel past 200 units of the player have a radius of 18 units.
  • All other ink droplets have a radius of 12 units.

The Custom Hydra Splatling is a Splatling packing all the destructive power of the original! The Main weapon's barrage of ink combines with the Sprinkler to charge up the Bubbler in no time at all! If your opponents get too close, you could be in a real pickle, so this setup suits a cautious battler!(EU/OC)[b]

A slicked-out version of the Hydra Splatling. This one comes with a Sprinkler sub weapon and a Bubbler Special to shore up the Main weapon's weaknesses.

The Custom Hydra Splatling was released on 1 August 2018 at 00:00 UTC.[6] It comes with Ink Mines and Ink Armor.

Data

  • A fully charged Hydra Splatling has enough power to shoot down somebody using the Booyah Bomb and still have shots left to spare. Unfortunately, the window of time required to properly execute this is fairly tight, almost always requiring the Hydra to have been charged preemptively.
    • It takes exactly 21 shots from a fully-charged Hydra Splatling to destroy the shield, with an additional 3 to splat the user.
  • The Custom Hydra Splatling is a heavyweight weapon.
  • The matchmaking range is 245. The game's matchmaking system looks at a team's average matchmaking range value, and matches them against a team with a similar average.
  • The full charge ink consumption of 35% and ink tank capacity of 100% allows players to fully charge 2 times before needing to refill the ink tank.
  • The Custom Hydra Splatling cannot store its charge.
  • The Custom Hydra Splatling is not rechargeable while firing.
  • When charging the weapon, it will take 120 frames in order to charge its first ring and 150 frames in total for a full charge.
  • With a single ring charged, it will have a firing duration of 120 frames. With a full charge, it will have a firing duration of 240 frames.
  • Each shot has a base damage of 32.
  • At full charge, each shot has a base damage of 40.
  • If a shot is in the air for more than 11 frames after being fired, it loses 2 damage per frame until it reaches 16 damage at frame 19.
  • Shots have a radius of 2 units.
  • The angle its shots can deviate while on the ground is 3 degrees.
  • The angle its shots can deviate while in the air is 6 degrees.
  • The outer reticle immediately expands after jumping. After 25 frames, the outer reticle will start shrinking, and will finish shrinking after 70 frames.
  • The Custom Hydra Splatling has a 30% chance to shoot towards the outer reticle instead of the inner reticle.
  • When jumping, the chance to shoot towards the outer reticle instead of the inner reticle is immediately set to 30%.
  • Within the first charge ring, initial shot velocity scales from 10.5 to 24 units per frame. Within the second charge ring, initial shot velocity is always 24 units per frame. Shots travel straight at the initial velocity for 8 frames.
    • So at maximum charge, shots travel straight at a rate of 24 units per frame for 8 frames. Shots travel straight for 192 distance units.
  • After shots stop flying straight, the velocity is set to 19.4 units per frame if it is not already lower than the listed value, and decreases further as it travels.
  • Ink droplets occur every 235 units.
  • The frequency at which ink drips from a shot occurs at a rate of 1 droplets per shot.
  • There are a total of 8 different droplet patterns that can be created while firing this weapon.
  • Droplets that occur within 11 units of the player have a radius of 17.5 units, and a width of 0 units.
    • These droplets have their radius multiplied by a value ranging from 1.5 if they fell from a height above 100 units to 1.2 if they fell from a height below 30 units.
  • Droplets that occur when they travel past 250 units of the player have a radius of 16 units.
  • All other ink droplets have a radius of 11.2 units.
  • Droplets that are far from the player and all other droplets have their radius multiplied by a value ranging from 1.5 if they fell from a height above 100 units to 1.5 if they fell from a height below 30 units.
  • If no ink droplets have occurred within 11 units of the player for 0 shots, the next shot the player makes will force a paint droplet to appear at the player's feet.

Sheldon's Introduction

The Custom Hydra Splatling is a splatling cannon packing all the destructive power of the original! Lay a trap for your opponents with the Ink Mine sub weapon, and then find a good spot to lay the splat down with your main's rapid fire! The Ink Mines don't use a lot of ink, so you can place two of them at a time. Use the Ink Armor special to survive attacks long enough to strike back! Recommended for those who value defensive offensiveness!

The Custom Hydra Splatling has the same destructive force as the original, so be careful! This kit is all about defense: Ink Mines and Ink Armor are a potent defensive combination.

  • The matchmaking range is 24.5. The game's matchmaking system looks at a team's average matchmaking range value, and matches them against a team with a similar average.
  • The full charge ink consumption is 35% per shot, allowing the user to fully charge 2.86 times on a full ink tank.
  • The Custom Hydra Splatling cannot store its charge.
  • It takes 120 frames to charge the first circle (2 seconds) and 150 frames to fully charge (2.5 seconds).
    • When airborne or low on ink, it takes 360 frames to charge the first circle (6 seconds) and 450 frames to fully charge (7.5 seconds).
  • The Custom Hydra Splatling is not rechargeable while firing.
  • When charged to the first circle, the weapon will fire for 130 frames (2.17 seconds), and when fully charged, it will fire for 260 frames (4.33 seconds).
    • The firing duration is 1.08 times longer than the charging duration when charged to the first circle and 1.73 times longer when fully charged.
  • When firing continuously, it shoots a bullet every 4 frames (15 shots per second).
  • When firing while moving, the player's movement speed is set to 0.06 units per frame.
    • When charging, the player's movement speed is set to 0.044 units per frame.

  • Initial shot velocity scales with charge level. At minimum charge, it is 1.05 units per frame, and at once charge circle or more, it is 2.4 units per frame. Shots travel straight for 8 frames, regardless of charge level.
    • After that, the shot's velocity is set to 1.94 units per frame if it is not already lower than the listed value, and it loses 36% of its speed every frame (including the first frame after it stops traveling straight). Once the shot velocity decreases below a certain threshold, it will begin to be slowed less and fall faster.
  • Effective range scales from 9.98 units to 21.94 units, depending on charge level.
    • This number may vary at different firing angles.

Sheldon's Introduction

The Custom Hydra Splatling is a splatling cannon packing all the destructive power of the original! The Ink Mine sub weapon will give you an early warning about any foes rude enough to approach so that you can lay the splat down with your main's rapid fire! If you're struggling with a foe's long-range weapon, use the Splattercolor Screen to cut off their line of sight. That should give your team all the chance you need to break through! I'd recommend this to anyone who wants to maintain a tight defense all the way up to the enemy's front line!

The Custom Hydra Splatling is a customized model with tactical stickers. The Ink Mine sub weapon can help control choke points and prevent opponents sneaking up on you, and with the Splattercolor Screen special weapon you'll be able to contribute offensively and defensively.

Trivia

  • In Splatoon, at Cash 29,900, the Custom Hydra Splatling is the most expensive splatling and the second most expensive weapon in the game.
  • After the Custom Hydra Splatling's release, Nintendo had stated that it would be the last downloadable weapon coming to Splatoon. However, on 3 March 2016 Nintendo Direct presentation contradicted this. It showed at least eight new weapons that would be released.
  • At Cash 33,300, the Custom Hydra Splatling is the most expensive weapon in Splatoon 2.
  • While this weapon does have enough power to take down a Booyah Bomber in a single full charge, the timing is so precise the player may have thrown their bomb by the time the armor breaks. Main Power Up and Object Shredder can help with this.
  • In its Splatoon 3 reveal post by @SplatoonNA on Twitter, the weapon was mistakenly marked as having Point Sensor.[10] The tweet was later deleted, and a corrected one was posted.[9]

Etymology

Custom Hydra Splatling is derived from Custom; Hydra, a mythological multi-headed water monster, and a portmanteau of Splat and Gatling. Hydra may also be short for Hydrant, since the Custom Hydra Splatling is based on a fire hydrant in design. The prefix Custom is also used to differentiate it from the Hydra Splatling. This trait is shared among the other alternate sets of the Custom brand.

ハイドラントカスタム Haidorantokasutamu is derived from Hydrant and Custom. Hydrant refers to a fire hydrant. Like the English name, "Custom" is also used to differentiate it from Hydrant.
