The Flingza Roller is a main weapon in Splatoon 2 and Splatoon 3.

The Flingza Roller is capable of long-range vertical swings like the Dynamo Roller, while not having to share its low mobility. As a trade-off, its damage at long range is lower than the Dynamo Roller. For horizontal swings, the swing speed and damage of the Flingza Roller are between the Carbon Roller and the Splat Roller. Like other roller-type weapons, the Flingza Roller can be pushed along the ground to cover turf while moving, and only needs one well-aimed ink fling attack to splat an opponent.

Appearance

Like most rollers, the Flingza Roller has two main parts; the handle and the roller. Both parts appear to fold out of a metallic rectangular frame that resembles a Swiss Army knife. The handle is a simple U-shaped piece of metal with black grips. The roller part consists of a cylindrical body (resembling a pen cap) with a fountain pen nib attached. When the user performs a horizontal swing or a roll, the nib gets covered by a retractable cylindrical cover. The roller part is attached to the right side of the rectangular frame via some metal supports.

The Flingza Roller comes with Splash Walls and the Splat-Bomb Launcher.

The vertical swing on the Flingza Roller has a bit of a unique characteristic in that it sends ink droplets to the left and right. These droplets do not do damage but do ink turf.

It appears in two Octo Expansion stations:

Data

  • The Flingza Roller is a middleweight weapon.
  • The matchmaking range is 140. Splatoon 2 matchmaking looks at a team's average matchmaking range value, and matches them against a team with a similar average.
  • Ink consumption per second while rolling scales from 1.2% to 6% depending on the rolling speed.
  • When rolling, the player's movement speed is set to 1.08 units per frame.
  • After rolling for 1 second, the player begins to dash.
  • When dashing, the player's movement speed is set to 1.32 units per frame.
  • After rolling, there is a 0.33 second cooldown before the ink tank starts refilling.
  • Hitting an opponent while rolling deals 125 damage. Main Power Up increases rolling contact damage up to 143.75.
  • When rolling, the Flingza Roller leaves an ink trail that is 52 units wide.

Horizontal swing (from ground)

  • The ink consumption of 8% allows players to attack 12 times before needing to refill the ink supply.
    • This stat can be changed with Ink Saver (Main).
  • When attacking with a nearly depleted ink tank, the ink consumption of that attack is reduced to 4%. The damage of that attack is reduced to 25% of the normal amount.
  • When attacking while moving, the player's movement speed is set to 0.72 units per frame.
  • After swinging, there is a 0.75 second cooldown before the ink tank starts refilling.
  • Attacks have a base damage of 150. Main Power Up increases damage up to 172.5.
  • For normal attacks, ink loses damage based on distance traveled. Ink starts losing damage at 50 units and stops losing damage at 117.6923 units. The minimum damage is 30. Main Power Up increases minimum damage up to 34.5.
  • The lethal range is 80 units, as this is the farthest distance where ink deals 100 damage.
  • In situations where ink falls down, the ink will lose damage as it falls. The minimum damage for falling ink is 15.
  • Ink flung from the center of the roller does the greatest damage. Ink that is flung at an angle greater than 25 degrees to the left or right will have lower damage. This low-damage ink starts losing damage after traveling a distance of 28 units and stops losing damage at 90 units. The maximum damage is 100 and the minimum damage is 30. Main Power Up increases maximum damage up to 115 and increases minimum damage up to 34.5.

Vertical swing (while jumping)

  • The ink consumption of 12% allows players to attack 8 times before needing to refill the ink supply.
    • This stat can be changed with Ink Saver (Main).
  • When attacking with a nearly depleted ink tank, the ink consumption of that attack is reduced to 6%. The damage of that attack is reduced to 50% of the normal amount.
  • When attacking while moving, the player's movement speed is set to 0.8 units per frame.
  • After swinging, there is a 1.17 second cooldown before the ink tank starts refilling.
  • Attacks have a base damage of 150. Main Power Up increases damage up to 172.5.
  • For normal attacks, ink loses damage based on distance traveled. Ink starts losing damage at 60 units and stops losing damage at 153 units. The minimum damage is 40. Main Power Up increases minimum damage up to 46.
  • The lethal range is 105 units, as this is the farthest distance where ink deals 100 damage.
  • In situations where ink falls down, the ink will lose damage as it falls. The minimum damage for falling ink is 20.
  • Damage does not change based on the angle of the ink.

Version history

Version Adjustments
1.4.0
  • Increased movement speed when the roller is being swung overhead.
  • Made it easier to ink the ground in front of you when using a horizontal swing.
  • Increased range of ink flung by a horizontal swing by roughly 17%.
  • Increased range at which maximum damage is dealt by a horizontal swing by 25%.
  • Increased damage dealt to opposing Ballers with either a vertical or horizontal swing by roughly 40%.
  • Decreased the knock back distance when coming into contact with a roller that has run out of ink or is in mid-air.
  • Fixed an issue causing the aiming reticule to display outside the center of the screen when moving the camera and using a roller or brella-type weapon.
2.2.0
  • Vertical fling painting range extended.
  • Vertical fling indirect hit damage range expanded, the area where the damage is above 50.0 was lengthened by about 13%.
  • Vertical fling direct hit damage range expanded, the area where the damage is above 100.0 was lengthened by about 11%.
  • Special points: 180 → 190.
3.0.0
  • Adjusted distance at which damage from a horizontal swing begins to decrease. Increased distances at which damage exceeding 100.0 is dealt by roughly 9% and exceeding 50.0 damage is dealt by roughly 12%.
3.2.0
  • Decreased ink consumption when inking the ground with the roller while moving at top speed by roughly 33%.
4.1.0
  • Extended range in which a horizontal swing will deal 100.0 or more damage by roughly 5%.
4.2.0
  • Special points: 190 → 180.
4.4.0
  • When rolling, the time to reach the maximum speed has been reduced by 30/60 of a second.
  • Increased movement speed while vertical flinging by about 11%.
  • Adjusted the damage attenuation range of the vertical swing, and slightly lowered the maximum damage to compensate.
    • The combined effect makes it so that the range in which 100.0 or more damage is dealt has been increased by 5%, making this an overall buff.
5.0.0
  • Increased the radius of the area ink droplets can fall in when making a vertical swing by roughly 12%.
5.2.0
  • Reduced the time required to swing the weapon overhead in a vertical swing by 3/60 of a second: 45 frames → 42 frames.

Sheldon's Introduction

The Flingza Roller is a wild one. Its shape changes depending on whether you swing vertically or horizontally! It allows for quick horizontal ink flings before switching to a vertical fling-like SWISH, SPLAT! Use the Splash Wall sub to create some safety then send your team to the front line by laying down an ink path with a vertical swing. Protect your friends that to the front with the Splat-Bomb Launcher!

Trivia

  • The Flingza Roller is visually designed after a fountain pen. The idle stance and vertical swing show the nib (also seen in the promo image above) while the horizontal swing and rolling stance have the pen with its cap on. As detailed in The Art of Splatoon 2, it is also designed after a Swiss Army knife.
