Checkpoint 1

The test starts with an island consisting of two Sanitized Octotroopers, each on two towers, a Sanitized Shielded Twintacle Octotrooper in the center, and a Sanitized Octocommander on the top corner. An Inkrail is hidden in a box in the corner, allowing easy access to the Octocommander. Once all enemies are defeated, a launchpad will appear where the Octocommander once stood, bringing the player to the second checkpoint.

Checkpoint 2

The second island is a large square area with four L-shaped walls with dash tracks on their sides that face each other, so the player can get to one or the other quicker that have Octocommanders on two of their corners, while the other corners have Octotroopers. One pair guards a canned Sting Ray, while the other guards a canned Curlin-Bomb Launcher. The middle court area has a tall cube platform in the middle with a Sanitized Octosniper and two dash tracks on top to gain access to the outer walls, while there are two Sanitized Twintacle Octotroopers and two Sanitized Rocket Twintacle Octotroopers below along with two Sanitized Rocket Octobombers above. There are also Gushers to reach back up. Once defeating all the enemies, a launchpad will appear where the Octosniper was, bringing the player to the third and final checkpoint.

Final Checkpoint

The final island is a tall tower with rotating platforms with an Octosniper and two canned Splashdown dispensers on top, while the rotating platforms have two Octocommanders and two Sanitized Blobby Octotroopers. The bottom area has two Sanitized Octostamps, a Sanitized Tentakook, two Twintacle Octotroopers, and two Blobby Octotroopers each guarding Inkrails that lead back up. Defeating all of them will make three launchpads appear; two in the bottom area leading to the top, while the other is on top of the tower that leads to a platform with many crates and the goal.

C.Q. Cumber's Quotes

You must defeat all enemies to proceed.
Raining ink on enemies from above is not very effective here.
And be aware that dash tracks will also cause things like Curling Bombs to dash.

Cap'n Cuttlefish's Quotes

You can hide behind a wall and take a few deep breaths! It's a rule of the battlefield.
Excellent—you wiped them all out!
Take careful note of the enemy's position, and find a weak point in their defenses!
There's still trouble down below!
Nice work!

Trivia

  • The title is a reference to Hip-Hop Producer DJ Phat Beatz and the subtitle is a reference to the Wu-Tang Clan song Bring da Ruckus.
  • The Japanese name of this station is a pun on "Bakkure" and "Fukeru" (escape). They are slang words in eighties Japan.
  • This station has Polly Pocket-like arrow-shaped dollhouses and "Kutsuwa" pencil cases floating around in the background. Polly Pockets, made by Bluebird Toys, are plastic cases which, upon opening, form dollhouses. The "Kutsuwa" pencil cases, made by the Japanese brand Kutsuwa, are pencil cases from the eighties.
    • The dollhouses became very popular the time of in-universe release due to being portable and is today considered a fine collector's item. The dolls and some parts of the house could glow in the dark after exposure to light, scaring many children who were not aware of this at night.[1]
    • The green pencil cases have an illustration of a motorcycle during a race and were targeted at boys and were specified as being able to open on both sides. It has many built-in gimmicks like a pencil sharpener and magnifying glass and also has a pocket for storing one's timetable. The pink ones were meant for girls and could only open on one side but had more space and could store erasers in the shape of Zapfish. The illustration depicted two characters from the animated series "Sea School", a pair of identical twin scaly-foot gastropods who wore different-colored ribbons and went to a school under the sea.[2]
      • Seita Inoue, one of the directors of the Octo Expansion, recalled in an interview that he was envious of those who had such pencil cases when he was in elementary school.[3]
    • The Dutch subtitle of this station alludes to these Polly Pocket dollhouses.
  • Phat Splatz Station is the only station in the Octo Expansion to use the L-3 Nozzlenose.
  • Phat Splatz Station is the only station in the Octo Expansion with a Sanitized Tentakook.

Translation notes

  1. A pun on "Bakkure" and "Fukeru" (escape). They are slang words in eighties Japan.
  2. Comes from "in zijn zak steken", a Dutch expression meaning "that compliment is all yours, you can take these benefits for yourself".
  3. "Bine" is a Québécois slang term for a punch or hit. It literally translates to "bean" in the context of food.
  4. "Marron" is slang for a punch or blow. It literally translates to either "chestnut" in the context of food, or to the unedible "horse chestnut" in botany.
  5. The part "bezostankinskaya" comes from "без останков" "bez ostankov" ("without remains", "no remains"), and together with башня bashnya (tower), it forms a pun to Ostankino tower, a TV tower located in Moscow.
