Ability Doubler is an ability in Splatoon 2. It doubles the effect of each sub slot on a gear piece; as a result, each sub ability is ×0.6 as effective as one main ability, and can provide a maximum of 18AP (3× subs (3× 3AP) ×2), instead of the usual maximum of 19AP (1× main (1× 10AP) + 3× subs (3× 3AP)).

Mechanics

All ability points (AP) associated with the sub slots on a gear piece that has Ability Doubler are added to the user's total ability points again.

Tactics

Ability Doubler can be used to achieve certain combinations of ability points that are not possible without this ability. It is useful when trying to use a variety of different abilities; for example, to get 6AP (2× subs) for 6 different abilities. Abilities whose effects are significant with a low amount of AP (such as Swim Speed Up, Special Saver, and Ink Resistance Up) should be considered for this use case.
