Callie: It's hard to get anywhere on those conveyor belts!

Marie: Sure, if you keep running the wrong way...

Piranha Pit is a multiplayer stage in Splatoon. It was announced on December 16, 2015 along with Ancho-V Games[1] and released December 29th, 2015 at 02:00 UTC[2].

Layout

The map of Piranha Pit at Turf War.

Piranha Pit is a wide map located in a quarry. Each team's base is incredibly close to each other, with a much wider center. It features ten conveyor belts, one in front of each team's spawn point, two in the center, and three to the left of each spawn, near each Side Camp. Ink spread on each conveyor belt counts towards each team's score.

Hazards

The entire island is surrounded by a large body of water. Falling into it will result in a splat.

Notable Locations

  • Side Camps - These camps on the edges of the map contain most of the ink-able turf in Piranha Pit. They each feature two conveyor belts, one going up and another going down, and can be located to the left of each team's spawn.
  • Center - The center of the map contains two conveyor belts, separated by a divider, two alleys, and two small areas to the side. This is where most fighting over turf may take place, as players have to go through here in order to reach the opposing team's Side Camp.

Ranked Battle

Splat Zones

Piranha Pit has two Splat Zones each located in the open space immediately in front of each Team's spawn point by the central conveyor belt ramps. The only way to get between the zones on ground level is through the small alleys in the center, however from spawn or with the use of the conveyor belt ramps players can take the slightly higher ground and have a little more freedom in how to infiltrate the opposite zone. The two conveyor belts in the Side Camps have also been disabled.

Tower Control

The tower is located at the center of the map between the two conveyor belt ramps where a wall would normally be. The tower will first move towards your team's side before moving through the ground level alley to the enemy's half of the stage. From there the tower will travel to the edge of the middle ground before making a U-turn and reaching its goal.

Rainmaker

The Spawn Point in Rainmaker is moved towards the left next to the tower in front of the team's normal spawn position. The Rainmaker is located at the center of the map between the two conveyor belt ramps where a wall would normally be. The Rainmaker must be taken to a goal on the far opposite side of the map on the small island in the Side Camp. Many of the conveyor belts do not function in this mode, with the exception of the conveyor belt ramps in the center, and the ones next to each goal. Lots of boxes have been added over holes to aid in attacking the enemy team.

Tips

  • The conveyor belts do not function as one may logically expect; once Ink has reached the end, it simply reappears at the start. This means that Ink on the belt always counts toward the final score no matter what.
    • Squid Beakons and Ink Mines cannot be placed on conveyor belts.
    • A Bomb Rush or well-placed Sprinkler can be used to quickly cover a conveyor belt.
    • An Inkstrike does not cover a conveyor belt unless the user specifically touches it when aiming with width=auto. The whole belt will then be included in the target area.
  • In Splat Zones and Tower Control most of the battle's focus is at the Center and not the Side Camps, making them useful for launching attacks from and placing Squid Beakons. This is even easier with the two conveyor belts inactive.

Trivia

Boneless inklings with their roller type weapon
  • Prior to Version 2.5.0, it was possible for a player to perform a glitch in Piranha Pit in Tower Control game mode. the player was able to make their inkling body boneless with the roller type weapon by moving the roller in the conveyor belt and sticking it to the tower.
  • The machine in the distance is a bucket-wheel excavator, used for continuous digging in large-scale open-pit mining.
  • The Great Zapfish swims in the water off to the side of Piranha Pit by a raft, and can be seen coming up to the surface occasionally.
  • When forced to load in Battle Dojo, Piranha Pit lacks the conveyor belts entirely. It is unknown what causes this.
