Oh, what's the use? It's too obtuse.
I'll dump it in the lost and found.

Sunken Scrolls are items found in the single-player modes of the Splatoon series.

Each scroll has information about the world of the game and its history, such as the Great Turf War. In Splatoon and Splatoon 2, there is one Sunken Scroll in each main stage. In Splatoon, there are 27 normal scrolls, five from boss missions, and three from amiibo challenges. In Splatoon 2, there are 27 normal scrolls and five obtained in the Octo Canyon overworld. In Splatoon 3, there are 24 scrolls, all of which are found in the overworld of Alterna. Sunken Scrolls are usually hidden out of the player's way, except for Boss Scrolls, which are directly in front of the Zapfish after the battle ends. Scrolls are automatically collected in a book, which can be viewed from the overworld of Octo Valley, Octo Canyon, or Alterna.

Boss Scrolls award the player with blueprints for new multiplayer weapons, which are unlocked the next time the player goes to Ammo Knights. They must still be bought with cash and all level requirements apply.

In Splatoon 3, each Sunken Scroll also unlocks a locker sticker based on that scroll.

List of Sunken Scrolls

For a list of scrolls, including images, descriptions, and locations, see:

The icon for a Sunken Scroll is a green tentacle in shape of a question-mark, upon a parchment scroll.

In Splatoon 3, Sunken Scrolls are in 3D, allowing them to show different elements based on the angle. Certains elements such as adhesive tape, posters or photographs reflect light; however, it is inconsistent. In the case of Sunken Scroll 12, this light reflection gives the impression of a real-life painting, while Sunken Scroll 15 shows a card with reflective text.

Below is a list of notable scrolls taking advantage of the Nintendo Switch's gyroscope:

  • Several scrolls feature stickers with moving facial features: the clam mochis' moving eyes in Sunken Scroll 1, the Octotroopers' eyebrows in Sunken Scroll 5, and Staff's mouth in Sunken Scroll 24. Additionally, in Sunken Scroll 9, an origami manta whose eyes also move is taped to a piece of newspaper.
  • Sunken Scroll 4 features two pieces of kaleidoscopic tape.
  • Sunken Scroll 6 features a lenticular image, replicating a business card. Tilting the console will reveal a completely new image.
  • Sunken Scroll 7 features two Salmonid stickers with dull holographic tails. The usually green tails turn yellow when tilting the console to the left, and blue when tilting it to the right. Sunken Scroll 13 also features crystallized holographic stickers of a Splattershot, a Tri-Stringer and a .96 Gal.
  • Sunken Scroll 17 shows a pair of sunglasses, which exist in-universe, with a squid arrow pattern visible at specific angles.

Splatoon 2

Splatoon 3

  • In Splatoon and Splatoon 2, if the player collects a mission's Sunken Scroll but gets splatted before they reach the next checkpoint, they will lose it and have to pick it up again.
  • During Splatoon's amiibo challenges, the crates that would contain the Sunken Scroll in Octo Valley have ten Power Eggs in them instead.

Sunken may refer to the fact that the scrolls are hidden across the missions and Alterna.
