Known Occurrence
Known Occurrences are events that can occur in waves in Salmon Run in Splatoon 2 and Salmon Run Next Wave in Splatoon 3. Mr. Grizz has special dialogue when one begins, as well as during it in some cases. With the exception of Water Level changes, Known Occurrences cannot be experienced by Apprentices unless there is at least one Profreshional in the group. The same Known Occurrence can happen more than once in the same shift.
For a Known Occurrence, the sky in the background will get darker, and Fishing Frenzy (or Frothy Waters in Splatoon 3, depending on the occurrence) will play in place of Deluge Dirge or Frantic Aspic.

Water Levels (high and low tides) | During low tide, the water on the map is lowered to its lowest point, revealing a shore. Salmonids and another goal will spawn near the shore. | The water-like overlay between waves does not reach the supplied weapon indicator. | Low Tide
During high tide, the water on the map rises, hiding a portion of the ground in water. Salmonids will spawn closer to the center of the map. | The water-like overlay between waves reaches the top of the supplied weapon indicator. | High Tide
| ||
Rush | Salmonids rush at the player who has Glowflies above their head. The only Boss Salmonid that spawns is the Goldie, and the only Lesser Salmonid is the Chum. (Snatchers can still spawn.) Chums have only 50 health in this mode. | No warning cues. |
Fog | Fog will cover the arena, making it more difficult for players to see. There is a chance that Goldies may spawn. | The fog will fade in during the last three seconds before the wave begins. |
The Griller | All salmonids are replaced with Grillers and Smallfry. Smallfry spawn in small groups, while Grillers show up one at a time. Later in the wave, multiple Grillers may appear at a time. | No warning cues. |
Cohock Charge | The only Lesser Salmonid that spawns is the Cohock. Ink Cannons will appear to help the players defeat the horde. Only confirmed to occur alongside shoreline waves. | The cannons appear three seconds before the wave begins. |
Goldie Seeking | Salmonids will not spawn from the shoreline, and the only Boss Salmonid that appears is the Goldie. There will be gushers scattered throughout the map. Attacking gushers will release lesser salmonids or the Goldie. The more light coming from the gusher and the higher the spout of ink, the closer the player is to finding the gusher with the Goldie. | The Gusher valves will rise from the Gushers three seconds before the wave begins. |
| |
The Mothership | One Mothership will spawn. Chinooks carry crates of Lesser Salmonids from the Mothership to the battleground. The Mothership will try to take eggs from the egg basket twice. | The Mothership emerges from the water and rises high into the air three seconds before the wave begins. |

Introduced in Splatoon 3 | ||||||
Mudmouth Eruptions | Mudmouths will emerge from gusher holes and spawn Salmonids. Golden Mudmouths can appear which spawn Cohocks and drop more Golden Eggs. | No warning cues. |
Giant Tornado | A tornado will appear by the shore, and Salmonids will be flung towards land. Boxes full of Golden Eggs will fall somewhere on the shoreline, far away from the egg basket. Always a low-tide wave, but uses the normal basket. No Snatchers spawn. | Thunder crashes. A large rock lands on the low-tide basket spawn five seconds before the wave starts. The titular tornado fades in three seconds before the wave starts. |
