Rollers are one of the five Main Weapon classifications in Splatoon. The Roller easily spreads Ink over a wide area around the user, making it an ideal weapon for Inking on the go. For most Rollers, running into enemies will instantly splat them, changing the splat cam message from "splatted" to "squished". For attacking enemies out of melee range, Rollers also have a mid-range Ink-flinging attack.
With the Inkling Boy amiibo, the player can use a Roller for Octo Valley missions.
List of Rollers
Rollers
- The Splat Roller Series
- Splat Roller – The base Roller in Splatoon. It allows for decent speed and wide turf coverage, with a mid-range fling. Comes with Suction Bombs and the Killer Wail.
- Krak-On Splat Roller – Has the same stats as the Splat Roller, but comes with Squid Beakons and the Kraken for a more aggressive play style.
- Hero Roller Replica – An amiibo-brand Roller based on the Hero Roller from the Inkling Boy amiibo challenges. However, it is simply a re-skin of the Splat Roller, with the same stats and loadout.
- Splat Roller – The base Roller in Splatoon. It allows for decent speed and wide turf coverage, with a mid-range fling. Comes with Suction Bombs and the Killer Wail.
- The Dynamo Series
- Dynamo Roller – A slower, more powerful Roller. While its rolling speed and Ink-flinging attack are both slower than that of the Splat Roller, it covers a wider area when rolling and can fling Ink at a very impressive range. Comes with Sprinklers and the Echolocator.
- Gold Dynamo Roller – Has the same stats as the Dynamo Roller, but comes with Splat Bombs and the Inkstrike, for a less support-oriented role.
- Dynamo Roller – A slower, more powerful Roller. While its rolling speed and Ink-flinging attack are both slower than that of the Splat Roller, it covers a wider area when rolling and can fling Ink at a very impressive range. Comes with Sprinklers and the Echolocator.
- The Carbon Series
- Carbon Roller – A lightweight Roller that acts as a middle ground between the fast Brushes and slower Splat Roller. Although it cannot squish enemies in one hit, rolling and flinging speed are significantly improved, giving it the fastest one-hit splat out of all weapons. Comes with Burst Bombs and the Inkzooka.
- Carbon Roller Deco – Has the same stats as the Carbon Roller, but comes with the Seeker sub and Bomb Rush special weapons.
Brushes
Brushes are an unofficial Sub Class of Rollers. They are characteristically much faster and more mobile than conventional rollers, but do not do nearly as much in the way of contact damage, making squishing enemies virtually impossible. However, instead of flinging Ink, Brushes quickly swipe from side to side, flicking many smaller globs. This rapid-fire flick is their primary means of spreading Ink and attacking enemies, making them ideal for fast, close-combat action.
- The Inkbrush Series
- Inkbrush – An extremely fast Brush. When pushing it along the ground, it has a very narrow coverage and is quite weak, but it greatly increases the user's speed. It also has an incredibly fast flick, but the range is quite short. It comes with Sprinklers and the Inkstrike.
- Inkbrush Nouveau – Has the same stats as the Inkbrush, but comes with Ink Mines and the Bubbler for more a more defensive play style.
- Inkbrush – An extremely fast Brush. When pushing it along the ground, it has a very narrow coverage and is quite weak, but it greatly increases the user's speed. It also has an incredibly fast flick, but the range is quite short. It comes with Sprinklers and the Inkstrike.
- The Octobrush Series
- Octobrush – Something of a compromise compared to the Inkbrush. It lacks the extremely high running and flicking speed, but has better range, Ink coverage, and damage output. It comes in a set with Squid Beakons and the Kraken.
Trivia
- Ink flung from any Roller will glow before it lands. This is often difficult to see, however, due to bright lighting in some areas and the small amount of time for which the Ink is in the air.
