Power vs. Wisdom vs. Courage was a Splatfest event in Splatoon 3. It was announced on social networks on 14 April 2023. It was the first Splatfest in the Splatoon series to be themed around the The Legend of Zelda franchise.

Details

This Splatfest was a celebration of the then-upcoming next installment of The Legend of Zelda series, The Legend of Zelda: Tears of the Kingdom, which launched roughly a week after the Splatfest on 12 May 2023. In the franchise, the sacred golden relic called the Triforce is the main driving force of several games' plots and appears frequently in symbolism aside from this. It is capable of granting any wish when all three segments are combined in balance: the Triforce of Power, held by Ganondorf; the Triforce of Wisdom, held by Princess Zelda; and the Triforce of Courage, held by the hero Link. Therefore, this Splatfest represents these three virtues.

The Tricolor Turf War stage for this Splatfest was Scorch Gorge. Unlike previous modifications made to stages in order to function as a Tricolor stage, Scorch Gorge's layout instead takes on the shape of the Triforce. The defending team spawns in the same location on the wider side of the stage, and the attacking teams spawn in the two other sides of the stage.

• The official art features silhouettes of Ganondorf and Link as they appear in The Legend of Zelda: Ocarina of Time while the one of Princess Zelda originates from The Legend of Zelda: Twilight Princess.
  • In addition, the symbols of the Triforce of Power, Wisdom, and Courage can be seen on the backs of the hands of Ganondorf, Zelda, and Link, respectively, and they are pictured alongside the marks of their respective goddesses, Din, Nayru, and Farore.
  • Similarly, the Triforce designs seen on promotional keyrings and the reverse of the T-shirts feature ink splats covering up the two non-applicable Triforce pieces for each team.
• The wooden platforms, ladders and torches connected to the stone pillars seen in the background of Scorch Gorge may be a reference to Gerudo Canyon, a location in The Legend of Zelda: Breath of the Wild and The Legend of Zelda: Tears of the Kingdom.
• Some of Big Man's dialogue in the initial announcement of the Splatfest references various themes in The Legend of Zelda franchise:
  • "Ay! (Like, when you find a wall with a crack in it, you need courage to bomb it!)" references a common gameplay mechanic in various The Legend of Zelda games where players can throw bombs at cracked walls to access secrets.
  • "Ay. (Whoa. What if you could get all three? You could make a wish come true, right?)", references the idea that once all three parts of the Triforce are collected, it will grant the wishes of the user.
  • Frye also references a quote from Revali during the results announcement, "I simply must admit the truth". The line she references is part of a cutscene that plays after Link frees the Divine Beast Vah Medoh from the control of Calamity Ganon.
• The weapons shown in the official art correlate to their respective character: the Dynamo Roller is slow but powerful, referencing Ganondorf's attacks, the Tri-Stringer represents Zelda's Bow of Light, and the Splatana Wiper represents Link's Master Sword.
  • The appearances of the Inklings and Octoling in the official art correlate to their respective character as well; Link and Zelda both have pointed ears, like Inklings, and Ganondorf is usually shown with round ears. Additionally, Zelda has often been portrayed with braids.
• In the official Deep Cut artwork for this Splatfest, Frye is shown being accompanied by six of her eels. This is referencing the Sages, a group of six to seven key individuals that are part of several games' plots.
• This is the second Splatfest in Splatoon 3 to feature plain-colored Splatfest Tees instead of tie-dye ones, the other two being Grass vs. Fire vs. Waterand Lightly Salted vs. Consommé vs. Salted Seaweed.
• Team Courage, along with Team Grub and Team Paper in the Asia-Pacific region, are currently the only Splatfest teams in Splatoon 3 to get last place in every result category.
  • Furthermore, had this Splatfest used the scoring system introduced in Version 7.0.0 (which awards points for the 1st and 2nd-placed teams), then Team Courage would’ve been the only team so far to have gotten 0p.
    • Teams Grub and Paper are not applicable for the latter fact, as both Splatfests’ results combined Open and Tricolor clout into one category, and the Splatfest World Premiere additionally lacked the Sneak Peek.
