Ink Me Up is a song performed by the Squid Sisters.

Description

Ink Me Up is an energetic pop song, featuring the two cousins singing over an electronic composition, with a few elements of rock. It was the only battle theme that played during Splatfests in Splatoon, other than Now or Never! during the final minute and a special version of the Calamari Inkantation during the end of the Callie vs. Marie Splatfest. It could also be heard in Squid Beatz after hearing it during a Splatfest, and it is included in Splatune and Splatoon Live in Makuhari.

It can also be heard in Squid Beatz 2 after hearing it somewhere, with a maximum score of 000 and 000 in Normal and Hard modes, respectively

During battles in Splatoon, Callie and Marie could be heard hyping up a crowd; one of their clips played at 1:39. When the song returned for Chaos vs. Order in Splatoon 2, they were heard more often during the song; always playing at 2:35, 1:59, 1:39, and 1:03. These clips are not played with the song elsewhere, but Callie and Marie do hype up the crowd in a similar fashion during their live performances.

Lyrics

The booklet included with Splatune gives the official lyrics for Ink Me Up. The lyrics are nonsensical; the Japanese hiragana simply gives the pronunciation.

Other Versions

Ink Me Up (Live)

During live Squid Sisters concerts, an extended version of Ink Me Up is used. Although each performance is different due to the live bands, they retain the same strong structure. They all include parts of the song not found in the original, such as a new guitar riff throughout the song, such as during the intro and outro. A new guitar solo is also included, along with a section where a modified version of the instrumental plays. Two recordings of this version from their first and second live concerts can be found in Splatoon Live in Makuhari.

Samples and interpolations

The song The Girl from Inkopolis by Turquoise October samples Ink Me Up, playing Callie's vocals in reverse.[1]

Trivia

  • A behind the scenes video was released showing the recording of Ink Me Up. However, the video itself uses the final recording instead of the raw performance.
  • Due to the end of Splatfests in Splatoon, it is now impossible to listen to Ink Me Up in Squid Beatz if the player has not participated in any Splatfests. Although one can still listen to the song through the amiibo performances, this still, however, does not unlock it in Squid Beatz.
