Interest check - art contest for the Inkipedia logo

When I found out that the Inkipedia logo is from Nintendo's old Splatoon website, I wondered if there would be any interest in replacing it with original art. Something original and fitting for an encyclopedia about Splatoon. Maybe art of a squid reading a book, or something like that.

We could have an art contest! With Splatoon 3 releasing this year, the number of active Inkipedia editors is increasing, and the more people involved, the better the contest would be; so, sometime this year would be an ideal time for such a contest. I could personally fund prizes which could include eshop gift cards or cash.

There is a technical reason to get a new logo: newer wiki skins require text-only and art-only versions of the logo in addition to the normal logo; we only have the normal logo, so new skins such as Vector 2022 or Timeless don't look as good as they should. So, if we were to hold an art contest, each entry would require 3 submissions: (1) the art-only logo, (2) the text-only logo, called a "wordmark", and (3) the logo with art and text combined.

Changing the logo is not something to be taken lightly, so there would be at least two rounds of voting. One vote to choose the art contest winner. Then, a second vote: art contest winner versus the current Inkipedia logo.

General discussion, ideas, suggestions, and other comments

I think this would be nice, as a lot of the visuals here are starting to look pretty outdated. As for restrictions, I think only users who have the welcome message on their talk page present before the contest should be allowed to participate, so as to prevent people making an account for the sole purpose of partaking in this. I guess for prizes, maybe the winner could receive a box of assorted Splatoon 3-related goodies, like a plush and/or a t-shirt of some kind. Princewave 21:15, 24 April 2022 (UTC)
Sounds fun! I can't promise anything, but I'll sure try to submit something if this happens. I don't know about a precise timeframe, but I think it should be long enough to let even busy people have a chance at making art. And as for restrictions, maybe give some for format (png, I assume?) or dimensions (square, not too small or too big)?

Hello there. If the prizes are eShop gift cards, participants should state whether they can use it or not. Like, those who cannot use it may receive a gift card of another type of their choice or pass the eShop card to the next winner. Splatoon Youtubers

Maybe we could add a section and pages dedicated to Splatoon Youtubers and their content like Viantastic, OctoBoy, Wadsm, etc. It's just a random idea and I really don't have ideas to support it, but what do you think and how should we turn this idea into reality?

Sometimes youtube videos are cited as a source of information, but other than that, there isn't anything else to say about them. They are out of scope for Inkipedia, because Inkipedia is a wiki about Splatoon. If there is a wiki about youtubers as people (there probably is), then that would be the place to create those pages. I read the page but I was still kinda confused about the custom signatures. It says to create a custom signature code or something like that but I'm stupid and don't know what that means or what to go to to do it. @Goldie: The easiest way to learn is to look at what other people did. If you saw someone's sig and you want to have one like theirs, look at the code to see how they did it, and you can copy it as a starting point for your own sig. The signature code is made using wiki markup, the same stuff that articles are built with! For example, the code

[[User:Goldie|<span style="color: magenta;">Goldie</span>]] ([[User talk:Goldie|<span style="color: blue;">talk</span>]])

Info correctness

When I looked at the Nzap ´83 page, I saw one section that said its sub was Point Sensor and another that said it was the Sprinkler. Again, one part said the special was Kraken, and one said it was Ink Storm. I was just wondering which it was. Tac0fan9 (talk) 23:14, 15 May 2022 (UTC)Tac0fan9

It has a different sub and special in Splatoon and Splatoon 2. In splatoon, it has point sensor and kraken, while in Splatoon 2 it has sprinkler and ink storm. Hopefully that helped! OrderSquid123 (talk) 00:44, 16 May 2022 (UTC)

Octarian s3 section again

Hey umm so did anyone else see the news on the Octarians in splatoon 3- they were only screenshots but I would really like it if I could actually make a section for the Octarians in splatoon 3, I've tried this before but there wasn't enough info so just asking again. - Octosquidfishyling?!?! @Octosquidfishyling?!?! Yes, you should make any improvements as you see fit. When it comes to editing wikis, it's best to be bold!

Note that all images have already been uploaded as far as I am aware; you can look at the Return of the Mammalians page or the relevant category page to easily find the images, as you will need their file name to add them to articles.

To automatically insert your signature with timestamp, type 4 tildes, like ~~~~. You can use the show preview button to verify that it inserts your signature before saving your comment.

What are some of the custom commands in this wiki?

E.g. how people put an image or different font on their signature, how to organize pages in a more appealing way, etc.

If you know some of them, please share! I'm new to wiki's and there are so many stuff i see people doing but i don't know how to lol :)

Links directly to images?

I came across some links that don't lead to a wikipage but instead to an image.

I found no rule against this in the guidelines but I personally think that a link that leads to a wikipage is more helpful.

e.g. Sunken Scroll 1 or Sunken Scroll 1

Either one is helpful, as it's nice to know what a sunken scroll looks like for those who do not have access to the scroll in their copy of either Splatoon or Splatoon 2. It's also there for people who do not know the name of the file. The first one is there for viewers who don't know what the scroll looks like, the second link is about the scroll. In the wiki page is the image of the scroll. If you click on the image, you get directed to the first link. If you still have questions, please reply. So, I haven't been able to get my signature to work. This is probably because I haven't checked the "custom signature" box. However, I do not know where it is. "Reporting a bug" page?

I've been running into a couple of glitches recently, and I was wondering if we could have a page just for reporting bugs on the website (unless we already have one, or if we don't need one). What do you guys think? WolfTamer 02:48, 6 June 2022 (UTC)

Well, I've run into three that I've noticed.

The first glitch is on my user page, where my userboxes are a little bit glitched when viewing on desktop mode, however it doesn't appear on mobile view. There is a noticeable gap in between my Front Roe userbox and my custom manga userbox, but when looking at the source code, there's nothing out of the ordinary. This has been happening to me since another user swapped out my custom Front Roe userbox with the official one about a week ago.
The second one just happened to me just a few minutes ago (could be a network issue, though), where no matter how many times I tried to log into Inkipedia, it would lead me to an error screen. It happened on both my laptop and my phone, but after a few minutes, it let me log in.
The third one is when I try responding to people on talk pages, it'll glitch the entire conversation, and I have to edit the source code to respond to people. If you look at my past edits on this page, you can see what it looks like.

For #1, the gap may be because the image for the manga user box is a rectangle instead of the usual square. Maybe try cropping it or switching to another image. For #2, if the error shows a white screen saying something like 503 Guru mediation fetch failure", I've been noticing that a lot randomly on Bulbapedia, and they said they're working on it, so it might be similar if you're seeing the same message. 503 errors are usually caused by something being under maintenance, so maybe it was being edited a lot when you were trying to get on. As for 3, I don't really know. Could be a connection error or maybe someone was editing the page at the same time. Hope this helped for 1 and 2 though. WoomyGirl85 (talk) 20:12, 6 June 2022 (UTC)

Well, I tried to switch out the image for the manga userbox, but it still didn't work. I even tried removing the userbox altogether, but the glitch still happens.

Font Page

Is there a page with a list of all the fonts we can use here? If not, could someone make one? I don't know all the fonts. It could be useful for making signatures. - * Woomy? (talk) 18:43, 5 July 2022 (UTC)

Fonts have little to do with Inkipedia and more to do with general computing and web browsing. Any font installed on your computer can be displayed in the web browser. You can use CSS code like style="font-family: Georgia, serif;" to say "I want the Georgia font to be displayed if available, and if it's not available, just choose the default font in the serif family of fonts".

The only difference with Inkipedia is that you can use <span style="font-family: Splatoon;">Splatoon</span> and <span style="font-family: Splatoon2;">Splatoon 2</span> for the Splatoon and Splatoon 2 fonts without installing the fonts on your computer, because they are automatically downloaded and placed in your web browser's storage cache the first time you visit Inkipedia. Strategy pages

I was browsing the strategy page and I noticed that some weapons aren't covered, such as the Goo Tuber. I was hoping for some strategy with the Goo Tuber as I am trying to get better at maining it. Is it a work in progress or something that was overlooked? - Woomy? (talk) 22:36, 8 July 2022 (UTC)

Updating URLs

Hey team. Now that https://splatoon.nintendo.com/ directs to a Splatoon 3 game site, does each instance of this URL's in reference to Splatoon 2 have to be amended individually, or is there a central/streamlined way to update URLs on a wiki? One way to create a page is if you search something (say inkling) and that page doesn't exist then there's something that says Create the page (Insert your search) click that and you can create a page!! Oddlildude (talk)

Tableturf Battle cards

How do we want to handle individual Tableturf Battle cards?

Should we have a single page with detailed information about all the cards, including the ink shapes? (For now, we just have a list.)
Should each card have its own page?
Should we put the information about a given card on the page for whatever that card represents? For example, should we put details about the Splattershot card on the Splattershot page?
Something else?

Great work! For now, I think a list should be sufficient, and if we ever need a place to record more information about a card (trivia, history, more pictures, etc.) then it may be time to create an article. Separate "Walkthrough" and "Layout"

In the pages for the Splatoon 1 single player stages, there is a "walkthough" section that constantly uses second-person narration. I was wondering if it is possible to create separate "walkthrough" pages for each single player stages, then have the main page describe the layout in a more standard manner. Anarchy Splatcast Dialogue

Does anyone have a plan for the Anarchy Splatcast dialogue from Splatoon 3? It seems like the StageQuotes template might not work well, even if it had three columns, because the three people can speak in any order.

S3 Models

As of right now the site is using the 3D weapon models of S3 for the weapon pages and I understand why as it's the same as the past 2 games but I suggest we use the 2D sprites instead as in my opinion not only do they look better but there also more recognizable going from in game to the site. Thoughts?

In my opinion, I like the 3D sprites because I think they look more detailed and because they might be more recognizable since some 2D Sprites are sort of blurry and in the game the weapons are 3D and not 2D. But that's just my opinion.Randomguy (talk) 07:12, 29 August 2022 (UTC)

All games story mode with all weapons

I was thinking that we should include videos for all of the weapons in all of the Splatoon's. I just joined and haven't made any edits so I wasn't sure if I could do it. Chorus of Calamari County

So, I'd like to bring this up… the squid sisters technically did not make this song and it had existed for many years canon in splatoon. Some issues I've come across

After the Wiki's update, I have discovered some issues:

The More Tab in desktop mode isn't in its own bubble.
At the very bottom of the wiki, the "Powered by" tabs and the Privacy Policy, About Inkipedia, Disclaimers & Mobile/Desktop view links are now floating halfway out of the bubble.
The custom Splatoon 1 & Splatoon 2 text fonts don't show, even if their code is put in.
This one came up before the update; In Mobile view on a smartphone, when I return to the Main Page from checking the Recent Changes, The link to Octo Canyon will randomly overlap the Salmon Run link.

Hi P.J. thank you for your diligence! I can confirm that @GuyPerfect has fixed points 1 and 2.

For point 3, we are deleting Inkipedia-hosted Splatoon fonts as they present quite a bad copyright problem for us; we can lean on Fair Use for educational purposes like making a wiki, but we don't want to be held liable for derivative works from a copyrighted source. The fonts will still work on your browser if the font is installed to your machine.

For point 4, this will resolve itself when we make the Main Page update ready for Splatoon 3 :) Slate Talk Contribs 18:41, 7 September 2022 (UTC)

Dedf1sh question

Hello! I noticed something about Dedf1sh's image background. If you look at the very bottom of the Kamabo Co. logo in the back you can see a tiny bit of pink (or whatever shade the octolings naturally have). This is most likely symbolizing how Dedf1sh was partially sanatized and little of her true self remains. I wanted to make sure I could write something about this before I make note of it in the trivia. I'm unsure if it has been confirmed by anyone yet. Thanks! Ink Pump's top section is... less than visible in dark mode

The ink pump top secton, the editing section just above this, and the current editing format i am typing in are all very hard to read while using the dark mode on Inkipedia.

Tongue thing

Hey, sorry for having so many questions! I noticed in the single player that Shiver and Frye both have tongues. In the Inkling and the Naughty v. Nice splatfest (I haven't checked anything else) they both say that Inklings -and most likely Octolings- do not have tongues. Should I look more into it? I'm not sure if anyone has updated this. Thanks everyone!!

I'm not 100% on this, but I guess you could probably copy and paste a user box off of someone's page that you want to use. New Brands

The templates for both the new brands (emberz and barazushi) say they have an even chance of rolling any ability though that is not true as shown by their respective brand pages and templates can only be edited by higher perms. Particle Zero (talk) 19:06, 14 September 2022 (UTC)

Decorations and Stickers

How should decorations and stickers for the lockers be organized? Should there be one page with a list of all possible items, or should each item receive its own page?

Masterpage: Easier to implement, harder for people to look up specific items and harder to add trivia.

Individual pages: Much harder to implement, able to display all information.

Inkling Language Translation

Okay, so this may be a long shot, but I made a discovery in Splatoon 3. So, Sunken Scroll 5, the page that looks like a manga was ripped out. I was bored last night and decided "I wanna translate this!!" That now lead me to 7 tabs open, and I was going through most of the scrolls. So I get to scroll 5. I thought it would be fun to mess with, and so I go spend ten-ish minutes. I get to the bottom panel, bottom left of the page on the right. I go write down the English characters (which I did by using the bold cipher image and wrote down by hand) and look at it. "omae nande konn na todfroni?!". Huh... WAIT OMAE?! So I go pull up Google Translate and I think about the f. I thought it was an O, and got "Why are you in the mud?!" So now, as I went to type the English/Romanji I found, I realized, "Why didn't i try other letters?" So I just re-translated it, and tried out an I. "Why are you in the middle of nowhere?!" I think it might be a good addition to the Inkling (Language) page. Oh, and on the left page, I got "tak..." "tak ga" I think it might be a typo of "tako" and says "Octopus..." "The octopus" but for all I know it may as well be a continuity of gibberish to make the pages look more like there's continuity in the dialogue. Alright, welp, that's all from me!! Byeeeeee!!! S3 single player needs help...

I just noticed that a lot of the individual kettle pages for the Return of the Mammalians campaign are either stubs or don't exist. We also need pages for the Alterna Space Center.

Please help me with this - I will work on expanding some of the stubs.

Currently, multiple kettle pages list the available weapons as "Hero Shot and Smallfry". In game, this option is simply referred to as Hero Gear. As multiple sub weapons can be selected while equipped with the Hero Gear, this is more accurate. The terminology used for the randomly-filled slots on gear is very inconsistent across the wiki. Ability uses the term "secondary ability" and provides "sub" as an alternative, but "sub ability" appears on a lot of pages - including Ability itself. Are any of these names confirmed by an official source, and if not, should the terminology used on Inkipedia be standardized?
