The Pearlescent Crown S and Pearlescent Crown L (known in Splatoon 2 as the Pearlescent Crown) are a pair of headgear items in the Splatoon series.

In Splatoon 2, it is a 2-star item produced by amiibo and comes with the primary ability Bomb Defense Up DX. It is only available from the Pearl amiibo. It cannot be ordered from another player.

In Splatoon 3, they are a pair of 1-star items produced by amiibo, each comes with the primary ability Sub Resistance Up. Both items are only available from the Pearl amiibo. Both items cannot be ordered from another player.

Appearance

The Pearlescent Crown looks like a replica to the crown Pearl wears during the Octo Expansion. The crown is gold with mauve and blue jewels on it.

The S variant has the crown being smaller than the wearer's head, hence being worn on top of it, similar to how Pearl wears her crowns. On the other hand, the L variant has the crown being bigger and worn more like normal crowns.

In Splatoon 2, both variants are unnamed, and the S variant is applied for girls, while the L variant is applied for boys. In Splatoon 3, both variants are available as separate pieces of gear and can be worn regardless of the wearer's style.

Trivia

  • The Pearlescent Crown is one of thirteen pieces of gear to have had its name changed between games.
  • The Pearlescent Crown is reminiscent of the crown worn by the rapper The Notorious B.I.G. in his iconic "K.O.N.Y" [King of New York] Portrait session.[1] This is likely a reference to Pearl's Japanese first name and surname deriving from contrasting sizes of squid, similar to The Notorious B.I.G.'s nickname, "Biggie Smalls."
